Title: Help me find a book

So, I was hoping someone would recognise the story I am about to describe. The Author wrote only this book and then died, so that might also be a clue.
So..
The story is sort of a retelling of Alice in wonderland but the main character is in the Philippines. She is young (a teen maybe) and goes into a vitual world to try to find her lost friend and encounters all sorts of weird characters cribbed from Phillipino myth and fantasy going on a journey while in this fantasy world. I can only remember snippets and some of them seem to be possibly stolen from other stories, but I'm sure there was a zamboni at some point.

Does this make any sense to anyone? help me help me help me!!
