Title: QUICK! Need a favor from a Worldcon attendee
Post by: SFEley on August 04, 2009, 03:43:59 PM
(Yeah, I know, I'm crossposting.  I'm pulling rank, so neener neener.  I'll take down the redundant ones shortly.)

Hi all,

If anyone here is attending Worldcon in Montreal this week and would be willing to do Escape Artists an easy favor, please leave me a personal message here or drop me an email at steve@escapeartists.net with your onsite contact info.  Ben Phillips is going to be passing through the city on other business; he will not be able to hang around for Worldcon, unfortunately, but he has a large supply of bookmarks for all three podcasts which we'd like to make available at the appropriate tables.

What we'd like is for one or more people who can be our ad hoc Freebie Czars at the con, pick up the bookmarks from Ben (or from the hotel desk, or somesuch) and make sure the tables stay reasonably well-stocked.  It shouldn't be too onerous, you would of course be welcome and encouraged to keep a happy number of bookmarks for yourself, and you'd be doing us a huge favor.  Besides the bookmarks, I'd be happy to make sure you receive some CD sets for your trouble.

Sound good?  Unfortunately, we need to know today, because Ben's cell doesn't work in foreign lands so communication is sporadic.  All we need from you right now is your phone number or other way to contact you, and Ben'll figure out the rest.

Thanks very much in advance.  You all are fabulous.

Slightly off topic here, but I need a mailing address for Ben so I can send him some samples.  If someone could PM me an address that he can receive a package at, I'd appreciate it.  I'd like to have it shipped before he gets back.

I will actually round out the mods unable to attend.  I'm on the wrong continent.

Wrong side of the country.  I live in the American Sector of the West Pole.

Details, Details. I amend my prior remarks in the record to read Spree-Drinker.

FTR, not really, although I fully confess that bad planning on my part shouldn't constitute an emergency on anyone else's.  I showed up to WorldCon with a box of bookmarks, filled a freebie table slot with them, left the rest under the table when the nice man running it said they'd move them up as needed, and had to immediately take off for the next city on my itinerary without being able to actually do anything fun.  I just happened to be in town on vacation and didn't realize I'd be able to briefly swing by until the last minute.  Hopefully someone picked a few up and was happy.

At least the Canadian border guards didn't confiscate them.  Although they certainly helped themselves to investigating the probably-illicit contents of my ballpoint pen.  I wonder if they were disappointed they didn't find the dealer's quantity of whatever the hell they thought was going to be in there.  They could have at least reassembled it correctly!
