Title: The Movie Trilogy Meter
Post by: stePH on September 27, 2009, 02:30:45 PM
Because the picture association thread (http://forum.escapeartists.net/index.php?topic=2579.msg52941#msg52941) is not the place to go into discussion about this ...

Overall I agree with this  but must take exception to a few.

Mad Max: The Road Warrior was far superior to Mad Max, but Beyond Thunderdome was the best of the three.

Die Hard: Second was by far the lesser of the three.  I liked the third almost as much as the first.

The Godfather: The second was better than the first?  That's just crazy talk.

Terminator: Judgment Day was every kind of suck.  First movie beats all sequels combined.

Matrix: There was no trilogy.

also was there a 3rd alien movie, or was that just a dream?  The second indy movie wasnt as good as 3rd.  that kid was just annoying and i hope with star wars that is original trilogy and not the festering dung heap known as prequells

Whoever made that chart has a fairly obvious preference for high-octane action.  Notice that Aliens is ranked higher than Alien; I would personally invert those two, as I enjoy the claustrophobic horror to the adrenaline-surging fighting retreat.  I think that explains why "Judgment Day" is higher than the original Terminator for him/her.  (I would invert those, too, frankly.)

Mind you, I would have cut the original Matrix's value by at least two-thirds of what s/he had, too, though I won't argue that the rest of the trilogy was proportionally much, much worse.  I found the first film to be very clumsy in its attempts to sound "deep," and the massive plot holes necessitated by the need to match the storyline up with the pseudo-philosophical rambling irked me to no end.

(And seconding StePH's WTF!? about Godfather II ranking higher than the first.  I suspect it's the action quotient mucking the scores up again.)

F**k that. X-men 3 was awesome. And batman 1 & 2 deserved MUCH higher scores.

Original ranker sucks.

They were spot on about LOTR though.

Given the lack of any continuity whatsoever between the first Star Trek film and the ones that come after it, I still think the Star Trek film "trilogy" ought to be Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, Voyage Home.  (And maybe Undiscovered Country as a late addendum.)

Oh, Talia. First you defended Heroes post-season 1 and now this? I'm going to have seriously start questioning your comic book adaptation reviews ;)

(Okay, I agree with you on Batman and Batman Returns.)

Heroes post season 1 was good! okay not great but entertaining and has its moments!  i still haven't stopped watching the show, tho it's prioritized lower than other shows, like one that airs at the same time, How I Met Your Mother

What was good about season 2?

It ended?

And they apologized for it.

Okay, those parts were good.

Has it got any better? I stopped watching midway through season two and don't know if I want to expend the time to get back in.

I think LOTR should have been full bars for all three, but otherwise no major complaints except for the lack of the second Star Wars Trilogy.

I've heard parts of season 3 are good, but the ending is a huge letdown. But that's all hearsay. I haven't actually seen any of it, because season 2 bummed me out so much.

Not even worth mentioning.  Flat zero all the way across.

Possibly negative points.  Maybe that's why some of the listed Star Wars films aren't full bars?

after the 1st of the prequel trilogy the only redeeming thing at all, was the undeniable fact that the Emperor (and probably Anakin/Vader) were all Jar Jar's fault.  Hell if it meant a chance at being able to slaughter an entire race of people like Jar Jar, I would turn to the dark side too.  That's probably why they built the Death Star in the first place.  Just by giving birth to Jar Jar his parents were guilty of High Treason.  Jar Jar deserves to be anally violated with a spiked baseball bat.  He single handedly destroyed an entire Universe.  I don't even want to watch the Original Trilogy really because he was so awful.  He definitely generated negative points.

George if you're listening just stop making any new content.  Turn it over to the fans, and just walk away, live life on your royalties.  If new Star Wars movies need to be made, look to source material like Heir to The Empire.  and look at it closely.  No cute kitsch crap clogging up the stories.

edit for spelling mistake

George was already turning to the Dark Side with those effing Ewoks. But Jar Jar certainly does eclipse just about any "fun" character I can think of. Even Smurfs are better than Jar Jar.

Even the Mon Chi Chis were better than Jar Jar
