In this week's EP episode, Mur said that they'll be running the occasional longer story. Will these be all solicited, or is it okay to send in longer stories to the slush? I've got a story of about 10k I was thinking about sending in, but the current writing of the guidelines makes it sound like anything above 6k is very unlikely to succeed--I was just wondering if that's changed with this new information.

It is ok to send longer stories in the hope that they will be selected as one of the novella-length stories. I'd keep in mind that there will be fewer novella-length ones run than regular-length ones run, and that Escape Pod really does get far more submissions that it could possibly broadcast (e.g., we got 15 from Thursday to Sunday night).

Thanks! I tossed it in the slushpile. :)

When you say "longer", is there a word limit? For instance, I have a 16,000-word novella that I think would fit well on EP or PP (depends upon if you classify it as alternate history or steampunk; it could be either), but I imagine 16,000 words would be like a two-hour episode.
(This is just an example... I'm fairly certain 16,000 is too long.)

Novella-length stories should be under 20,000 words. There will be a metacast in the not-distant future that will discuss the longer stories.
