Ok, I must admit some disadvantage in that I have not read the graphic novels, and really cannot claim expertise in the whole original versus celluloid derivative (ha, like they use celluloid anymore), but seriously, the movie is as far to the right as this is to the wrong (http://typophile.com/node/71191). I mean, the aaa and the aaa is so fucking badass. It used the actual soundtrack of my childhood, and perfectly.

Haha, I'm so glad there was already a thread on this. Fantasy discussion? I guess that makes sense.
Anyway, I just saw this movie tonight, and.... well... it blew my mind. No I haven't read the comics, but... wow. Just wow. I loved this movie. I really did not know what to expect from it, which made me all the more impressed and surprised. It was just...
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
Go see it, now.

Rating: Awesome
It was a very, very well-made movie with an interesting narrative technique that I hope to God does not become a popular trope to imitate. I'm glad movies are moving beyond the stage-play narrative structure, with complete scenes followed by complete scenes etc. There's nothing bad about that, but you can do other stuff with movies and it's nice to see them being tried by mainstream vehicles. I would not, however, want to see the hyperkinetic stream-of-consciousness pastiche become the standard. It's nice for a change, but it would rapidly grow wearing.
Michael Cera was not the right choice for Scott Pilgrim, alas. He does a good job, but on several occasions he just missed the tone, even of the script of the movie. He was more "What do I do now?" when the character seemed to be written to be more "What did I just do?" Scott Pilgrim appeared to me (without knowing anything about the comics) to be an act-now-think-later character, and Michael Cera just cannot get away from his neurotic worrying mode of behavior.
Other than that (and as I said, he does a good job for the most part) the movie was just a delightful psychedelic romp well worth paying to see in the theater, where the surround sound and enormous screen can let you bathe in chaotic sound and light for a while.

Gaah! I so totally want to see this movie in a crowded theater. Wish I had even a faint clue when (or even if) it was being released over here.

I liked Michael Cera's performance. His befuddled innocent worrying made the character for me. The movie slowed down a little at the end for me in the last confrontation sequence....too many coins over and over I guess. Loved the vegan powers bit.

I'm a big fan of the comics, and I was really nervous for this movie. I've hated every other movie starring Michael Cera. But... this one didn't disappoint! I was, happily surprised. I'm going to go see it again!

Gotta agree. The move was pretty entertaining. But if you enjoyed the film you'll LOVE the graphic novels! For god sakes go read 'em! They're hilarious. Period. Go give Bryan Lee O'Malley your money, he deserves it.

I want a sequel with Kim and the Vegan Police, best thing by miles. As someone who likes the books I have to say that most of the suckage comes from the ruthless way the plot had to be filleted to fit the time allowed, by the time of the twins fight I was starting to tire. But it wouldn't have worked with anyone other than Edgar Wright directing. The main problem I had was that while the actors playing Scott and Ramona were okay they had no chemistry or believability together. Without the sense of time that the books give us I had no sense that they belonged together, which was awkward.
