Yup, it's that time of year again. The time of year where we take the load off, cuddle up under the blankets on our most comfy couch with the rest of the family, and turn on the Star Wars Holiday Special (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=323909610753051544#), that wonderful menagerie of Wookie dialogue, pointless musical interludes, annoying storm troopers, Golden Girls, that bad guy from Blazing Saddles, and obviously cut and pasted film sequences.
And to all a happy new year.

As I like to point out to people, the Holiday Special gives us a glimpse of pop culture in the Star Wars universe, including TV shows, music, and art (the holographic dancers).
In that sense, it can be compared to Star Trek's "The Way to Eden", which is pretty much our sole point of reference for what music disaffected youth in the Federation are listening to. As such, the Star Wars Holiday Special and "The Way to Eden" are indispensable windows into their respective universes which we fans ought to treasure.

except not really, since Lucas had little to nothing to do with it.
-
Does it really matter, though? To quote Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_wars_holiday_special#Role_in_greater_Star_Wars_continuity):
According to Leland Chee,[17] the keeper of The Holocron,[18] an internal Star Wars continuity database at Lucasfilm (which contains at least 28 individual entries relating to elements of the holiday special), most elements from the holiday special are definitely considered canon.
I apologize to one and all if I've managed to turn this once-promising thread into a discussion about what is and isn't canon in the Star Wars universe.
-
:D hey, I'm no expert at Star Wars canon, I trust Wikipedia tho, so you win :P

Honestly, the most exciting bit about the holidays for me is the realization that the Doctor Who Christmas Special will be airing soon.
Edit: On re-reading, that sounded a bit Grinch-y. Which it isn't! I just really like Doctor Who.

Happy Life Day, everyone!

I didn't think you were a masochist, Brian.

You left out: a coked-up Carrie Fisher stumbling through the production in a barely-functional state. Probably the best part of the whole sorry mess. ;D

MY EYES!!!!!!
Sweet Jeebus that was fucking awful
-
Oh Lucas, it burns.
I need to wash out my eyes with a video of Matt Smith driving a shark-sleigh. (Because Santa hats are cool.)
