So I got the latest shuffle. For podcasts it was rather lame.
It would make each podcast it's own playlist. That meant that if I put in a 10 minute podcast when it reached the end of the podcast it would just stop playing instead of simply going to the next podcast. This is very frustrating if one is driving or doing anything else where you need your hands. I'm not always able to stop everything and go and select the next song on my menu.
Does anyone else know what MP3 players will let me listen to a string of podcasts all at once?
I should mention that I have an apple computer and my little droid phone does not have much data per month.

actually you should be able to change the order (I can with ipod touch and could with classic I had before that). If you put oldest first, then it will move to then next one. when it's newest first, then it stops. I have only ever been an iPod person. I started with iPod Color. after about 3 years it quit updating, couldn't put anything on it. It erased itself when i tried to restore, and would not sync anything, and I bought a refurbished classic. after that I upgraded to 4th gen ipod touch. I have a ton of music and musical tastes. probably don't need it all with me, but I always buy the largest I can because in short time I approach full.

Apple is just getting too expensive for just podcasts (and not the best at that anymore).
Is there a recommended podcatcher and or MP3 player?

were you able to at least reorder the playback so that you can listen straight through?

Sansa Clip with Rockbox seems like best non ipod for podcasts. EVerything else i see likes the ipod/iphone for podcasts. Mostly because of resume playback features.

If you have an android device, I recommend Pocket Casts.

Actually the whole thing came up because my ipod classic (that I bummed from my bf a month ago) died. I didn't even drop it or anything, i was selecting a podcast, and it froze. When I rebooted it it was making this scraping sound and had a picture of the sad mac.
Finding out later that day that I could have ordered the podcasts oldest to newest was useful, but at my price range I'd probably buy a shuffle to replace it. I don't know if shuffle has that feature or not.

not much more than the shuffle...http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC689LL/A/refurbished-ipod-nano-8gb-blue not sure if you can swing an extra $50. My other suggestion would be search ebay for used smartphone. As long as it has wifi and signal is available, you can use it as if it was connected for everything but as a phone.

You could also put a new hard drive in your Classic. They generally cost about $1/GB (20/40/80GB drives are most common) and the swap looks very simple to do -- there are lots of resources online to see how.

Keep an eye on dailysteals.com -- they're known to put up the Samsung Galaxy Player (basically an Android version of an ipod touch) on a reasonably deep discount.

I have a G1 droid

It looks like I may just want to get as shuffle or a refurbished nano again.

I didn't know said product existed thanks. Not sure if it did or not when I got my iPod Touch
