Title: "Drive" Gone? Already?
Post by: DKT on April 26, 2007, 04:21:01 PM
Poor Nathan Fillion and Tim Minnear.  I didn't get a chance to see the show (we get crappy reception) and I was really looking forward to watching it on DVD...but this had even a shorter run than Firefly.  In short, I'm really bummed that this show never really got a chance.  :(

You missed nothing, believe me. Drive made "The Cannonball Run 2" look like Shakespeare.

Hey, I was starting to like it. Seriously though, being canceled after four episodes? What happened to letting a show build it's audience? Do they really prefer to air"Search For the Next Pussycat Doll" or Trading Spouses rather than something with, well, story?

I think it's a consequence of the market. It doesn't cost anywhere near as much to shoot "I'd like to vivisect a millionaire" or "American Idle", and those shows make back their budget x100 or more than it does to shoot an hour long Dodge commercial off site somewhere, pay Nathan Fillion to spew stupid dialogue, pay a dozen writers to author said stupid dialogue, a team of editors to put it all together etc... If they don't make money out of the gate then they are more than happy to cancel it for something cheaper to produce that doesn't rely on, you know, operating brain cells to watch.

The list of shows that Fox has cancelled way before their time is huge. I still curse them for their treatment of Arrested Development.

Add "Herman's Head" to that list.

I only saw the first five minutes of the first show--an ancient Ford pick-up would not be my first choice as a race car, and the idea this race had been going on as long as there were roads...   :P no.  Love Nathan, but not in this.
