Midnight found her kneeling in grass, thick clumps of dirt all around. One by one she peeled and plucked segments of orange from its skin, then passed them between her legs. In the secret crevices of the tree, she gently tucked away the red-stained pulp. After, Cyan cradled the slender trunk, her fingers buried in its roots.

“Bear something for me,” she pleaded in her sleep. “Bear me.”

Really creepy story.  1/2 Garden of Eden.  1/2 Children of the Corn.

Good reading, but I have a lot of trouble getting into Flash Fiction.

This story was certainly evocative, but it was also very confusing - I wanted to know a bit more about where the tree came from, or what was the story of the other two trees, and why did the mother behave the way she did (if she knew this would happen, why did she not warn the girl? If this happened before, why did she not move away?)

Yeah I can see what you mean. It did need a bit more depth I assumed it was to do with witchcraft

Full of mystery and twisted sex. Score.

It would make an interesting non-flash piece if developed more, it's true; have some of the questions answered and perhaps generate new ones. But it excellently answered my question of "what can you make of such a short story?" Brilliantly captures the "What the EFF was that??" element I love in horror.

I might've liked this as a longer short story, one which actually explained anything about anything.

I did not much care for this one.  Far too surreal for me.  I couldn't follow it.
