Welcome to Group B of the finals. Each of these four films won one or more weeks of the regular poll, except Fight Club, which came within one vote of Empire Strikes Back. They are competing to go up against one of the top four films from the regular poll.
From Group A, Monty Python and the Holy Grail has moved on to the Quarterfinals.
-
Chris Nolan for the win. But Following is better than Memento.
Check it out.
-
Geez. These groupings are harder than the last ones... I'm gonna have to come back to this one, too.
-
Fight Club for me. Memento was great and I love both Nightmare before Christmas and Back to the Future, but Tyler Durden is an icon, man.
-
Argh, tough call. I went with Back to the Future. BTW, did you see that the courthouse set from that movie was damaged in the recent Universal fire?

If by damaged you mean is-currently-adjusting-to-life-as-ashes, yes.
-
Very tough call. Had to go with Fight Club.
... but Memento is so close it can almost bite Marla's ... oh no, actually there is nothing to bite.
So yeah, Tyler Durden all the way.
-
I voted for nightmare then regretted it two seconds later, but this poll doesn't allow me to revote. For me, it's a really close call between Nightmare and Fight Club - but while Nightmare was my favorite movie for several years, and Fight Club was never my absolute favorite in the same way - I think at this point in my life I prefer Fight Club.
Back to the Future - again, a movie that made a big impact on me when I first saw it, and I voted on it for the preliminaries, but not against this competition. Memento, for me, is a non-starter - while it is certainly good, it never really worked for me as well as it did for most people.
-
I just had to go with Fight Club. While I love the others, I might make this one “required” viewing.

I think the clocktower survived with damages, though. King Kong, unfortunately, did not. Kind of a bummer, really. I have fond memories of that backstage tram tour. I wonder what they'll do with it now.

I still haven't seen Fight Club.

Bad StePH! No biscuit! >:(
:D

I still haven't seen Fight Club.
We'll wait.

It could be a long wait. It could be years more.

WHAT? Years? Don't you trust our judgement at all? When we say, it is a great film, you better believe it, and if we say it is well worth it, given that we all here have similar tastes and interests, you can expect it to be very unlikely that you will be disappointed. (I bet, now you'll go watch it and say you hated it just out of spite? :))

Well, some people here have a high opinion of 2001: A Space Odyssey so I really can't give you a definite "yes" to that one ;D
I'll put it in my Netflix queue but I can't say when I'll get to it.
(And I won't say "hated it" unless I really do.)
[edit]
As for "similar tastes and interests", how many of you have read and enjoyed Battlefield Earth? :)

Re: Fight Club ...
Is this (http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Fight_Club/70048903?lnkctr=srchrd-sr&strkid=806105100_1_0) the movie I'm looking for?

Definitely. Not.
No Tyler Durden. And no soap.
-
This (http://www.netflix.com/Movie/Fight_Club/26004747?lnkctr=srchrd-sr&strkid=1248283239_0_0) would be the one you should want. ;D

For the second final poll in a row my film is going to lose.
-
can't go against Nolan, even though i loved Fight Club
-
A close vote so far...
Back to the Future: 7
Fight Club: 8
I voted for Marty McFly, but would be happy with Fight Club if it wins. They're both great.
-
Fight Club was brilliant. Relatively simple concept, based on a fascinatingly complex book, but delivered as a totally separate, lovely, twisted creation...
One of my favorites.

I'm with stePH on this one. I don't enjoy watching people hit each other, as a rule, and as cool as Pitt and Norton are... I just can't force myself to sit through it on purpose.
So, I had to go with BttF... please, don't hit me! ;)

Unlike you, I don't have any particular objections to the film. I just don't know when I'll get around to watching it ... I have a lot of stuff in my NetFlix queue. Right now I'm working on Sam and Max and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

I had borrowed Fight Club from Wherethewild a little while ago. When my wife saw it was beating Momento she said we should watch it. I wasn't too sure, because I don't like watching hyped movies. I was really good. I think I would still vote with Momento, but I liked it.
TAD: There isn't as much punching as you would think. There is a lot of the movie outside of the club.

What was the movie with the line about "I like little things... hitting each other!" Was that Time Bandits?
-
I hate movies about people hitting each other too. And resisted watching Fight Club for years for that reason.
But that's really not what the movie is about, or even something that gets much screen time. Watch it!

On a tangent from the poll there is another movie from the author of fight club coming. Choke (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1024715/) and a trailer (http://www.imdb.com/rg/VIDEO_PLAY/LINK//video/imdb/vi1843855641/)
-
Interesting that the Presumptive winner never actually won in the original poll. And it's going up against a movie that one three weeks in a row (BttF). But Fight Club did come within one vote of tying Empire Strikes Back (http://forum.escapeartists.info/index.php?topic=1302.0). And nothing ever beat that movie.
Maybe they'll face each other again in the semi-finals, but this time just the two of them without the other films drawing off votes.
-
I have to admit, I'm a little surprised it beat out Nightmare Before Christmas and Back to the Future. Pleased, but surprised.
