Steve, I love Escape Pod, but with all due respect, can you PLEASE find some folks to read the stories, who aren't you?? It seemed that you had bunches of readers for earlier episodes, but lately you have been reading something like every third story. Let us hear some different talent!

I wouldn't mind more variety in the voices, but I think Steve does a fine job when he reads.

Agreed Steve does very well reading the stories
I think he manages to get the voices "right" for the stories he reads and obviously puts alot of time and effort into getting them right

I meant, variety in the voices that read the story -- not the "voices" that Steve does for the characters.

While I really enjoy variety in readers, I also appreciate Steve's voice; so, I don't mind him reading many of the stories on EP.
Given that Steve seems to like having other readers, too, I am going to go out on a limb I know nothing about. I'd wager finding good voice talent that also has time and good recording equipment isn't as easy as it sounds. I am not sure if his voice talent gets paid, but if not, then you also have to find someone with literally "free" time to voice a 35-50 minute story, which is several hours of work. For example, I have a stellar voice, am professionally trained, and get asked I am sometimes asked to put in speaking appearances. But, I have crap for recording equipment and my time come and goes. There are 'casters out there who obviously have the voice talent and the recording equipment, but definitely not the time. There are people with the time and top notch recording stuff, but voices so grating cheese runs if they enter the same room. To top all this off, they have to want to read for EP, which they may or may not like (not everyone is into SF, though I have never really fathomed how that happens).
I think Steve likely tries to get appropriate readers, and he seems to genuinely enjoy having other readers on EP. It just may not be as feasible as often as he (and others) may like. JMHO, take it for the less-than-2-cents it's worth.

Welcome, Christoforo; while I tend to disagree with your sentiment, I hope you'll have fun checking out the forums. We even have a handy welcome to newcomers (http://forum.escapeartists.info/index.php?topic=76.0) thread to chew on!

I'm going to go out on the same limb as shwankie (hope it's a wide, strong limb!) because I think she's got it dead on.

I know, just KNOW, that I'm going to get blamed for all of this.

Ya I figured that is what you meant, I was just expressing why I dont mind Steve doing the readings. Sorry for the confusion

How do you know I'm not referring to my own weight? See below (I'm the one who isn't C.J. Cherryh or Jane Fancher.)
This picture was taken in September of 2005 and I've gained a bit of weight since.

Hihi! You remind me of Dennis Quaid. But you're way better looking, so no take no offense, if you were planning to do so.

It doesn't really matter what *I* think, now, does it?
(BTW, a T-shirt comment: Dream Theater! Rawk!! Mike Portnoy is a hyperactive genius.)

Porntoy certainly is hyperactive and has the m4d drumming sk1llZ, though I frown on double-kick abuse.

I like the little Zappa cameo onscreen near the end (I believe that bit is from Baby Snakes).
Still, Buddy Rich and/or Gene Krupa could smoke Mike Porntoy like a cheap cigar ;)
Do you happen to know what tour that clip was taken from? (the song was "Beyond This Life", right? I recognized the very end just before The Cheese came back onstage.)

It looked like the Live at Budokan concert (http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Theater-Live-at-Budokan/dp/B0002WYS6S/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1215286177&sr=8-1) to me, but I'm no authority on the matter.

Heh. All this time I thought you were female. Always interesting when your mental image of someone turns out to not at all jive with reality. :p
Anyway, to be on topic, I personally like Steve's readings, and occassional shortage of different readers doesn't bother me a whit personally. But then I am a great one for consistancy and prefer it over change.

Heh. All this time I thought you were female.
Probably because I go by "stePH". I get that a lot.

I've gotten that more than once as well.

I wasn't sure, but the avatar with a pink bow didn't help. Of course, Eeyore's a male, so now I'm really confused.
