Title: Horror in the Legitimate Theatre: Conor McPherson's The Seafarer

Last night I saw the Seattle Repertory Theatre (http://www.seattlereptickets.org)'s performance of Conor McPherson's The Seafarer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Seafarer_(play)) (if anyone reading this is in the Seattle area, it's running one more weekend -- go see it if you at all can, another fantastic performance from my favorite regional theatre).  I knew the vaguest outline of the play's plot, namely that it was about depressed, drunk lower-class Irishmen and the age-old trope of the card game with the devil.  I excepted the latter to mostly be a metaphorical device, and as such it was effective, but at the same time it also turned out to be a great bit of supernatural horror.  If you have a chance to see this one performed, do, and if you don't, at least pick up a copy of the play and give it a read.
