Title: kindle singles
Post by: Listener on November 06, 2012, 02:17:11 PM
Have any of the writers on here put out a Kindle Single? I have a novella that I want to publish that way, to see how it works, and I'm curious as to the difficulty level.

So far it has been my experience that selling short stories on the Kindle for .99 cents works quite well. The major factor, though, is to remember the "build it and they will come" sales model is a myth. If you put a book on the Kindle people need to know it exists if they're going to buy it. On my website (joshfinney.com) I've been doing a series on how to promote a graphic novel, which has a some cross over for novelists. You might find some of it useful...

Regardless, I say go for it.

Unfortunately Kindle will only take unpublished works, and this particular novella has already been purchased as an audio drama. I was trying to double-dip.  ;D

But I will keep it in mind.

When I read the title of this post I thought it was spam advertising a singles dating site...

Kindle will only take unpublished works??? Are you sure? I've tracked down and purchased a number of stories from the Kindel store that I first heard here on Psuedopod, such as John Haggarty's The Meat Forest and most of Eugie Foster's stuff. Likewise, my series UTOPIATES is available as a Kindel download, but is slated to become an audio drama next year. As long as you own 100% of the print/digital rights it shouldn't be an issue.

Sorry, I was unclear. If I want to publish something as a Kindle Single, it must be unpublished. If I want to publish my own work as a Kindle edition, that is perfectly fine.
