Title: We live in a science fiction world
Post by: Ocicat on February 12, 2014, 10:05:24 PM
I went skiing this morning and heard an exchange that would have fit right in to a 50's SF story. From a little girl to her ski instructor:

"Mr. Clark, would you ask your helmet what time it is?"

 "I just did, it's around 11."

I once walked past a bus stop and it had a working video screen as part of the advert poster. And that was 6 years ago

Have you seen this list of Ten Inventions Inspired by Science Fiction (http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/ten-inventions-inspired-by-science-fiction-128080674/ (http://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/ten-inventions-inspired-by-science-fiction-128080674/))? Its pretty interesting. The surprises for me were H.G. Wells as inspiration for atomic energy (circa 1914) and Heinlein as the inspiration for remote controlled appendages.

I wish we would move away from the IT expansion (faster, better, more info all the time, more reachable) and concentrate on expanding our physical parameters, maybe a space elevator, mining asteroids, Mars, and undersea colonies.
