I should be in bed, but I was passing a sf/horror text-based adventure off to a friend of mine and noticed this on my google calendar.
Thank you for another great year. I look forward to many more.

Wow, you're right. 10 years ago today EP001 hit the internet (here is a link for the interested (http://escapepod.org/2005/05/12/ep001-imperial-by-jonathon-sullivan/)).
Just think, in another 6 years Escape Pod will be old enough to drive its flying car. *wipes away a tear*
Cheers everyone. :)

What is that? The link doesn't work for me but in general I'm wary of links without explanation.

Its a recording, most likely generated by a Text to speech system, based on the url. It is down. I'll see if I can ressurect it. My guess is that is is some sort of laughter noises. Maybe a cheer for the ten years in a primal homosapien voice?
edit:
It is from here: http://public.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php
The audio is gone though. Sad face.
On that note: A message from our robot slaves:

Apologies.
Yes, it was a link to ATT's text-to-speech (TTS) engine. I am definitely leery about clicking on strange links. I thought about that when I posted.
FWIW, ATT's TTS website can be found here:

You can either create a url to a .wav file, or download the .wav. Apparently the url I created was temporary.
I'd made a file that sang "Happy Birthday Dear Escape Pod." A major crash & burn on my part. I found the ATT site when looking for voices to use to program my RC transmitter. Exciting stuff like "half flaps" and "gear up." You can use different voices.
At any rate, from me, "Happy ten-year-old birthday!"
