But regardless of a Christian's view on homosexuality, there should be no argument that we are to love everyone, sexual preference notwithstanding... sadly, all too many err on the side making sure their actions aren't seen as condoning a homosexual lifestyle. Jesus himself said, in one of his rare direct answers to a question, that the second greatest commandment was to love your neighbor... NOT to make sure your neighbor doesn't misconceive your loving attitude towards him as condoning his lifestyle.

Absolutely.  Very well said.  I have often pressed the idea that how I regard people and treat people is the most important thing.  I may not include homosexually in my morallity, but as soon as I treat somebody badly, or fail to show love and compassion for someone, regardless of, or worse, because of their sexual preference, I am being immoral.

Wow.

I haven't finished reading this thread but wanted to thank Cammo for this terrific post. You do a credit to Christianity and I really appreciate how concise and informative you were, with out being insulting or judgmental.

Thanks!

I was thinking about following up with a post about Jesus' take on the commandments, but birdless more or less did it for me anyway. In essence, they reduce to:
  • Love God;
  • Love your neighbour.

When Jesus was asked what he meant by 'neighbour' he replied with the story of the Good Samaritan. In essence, your neighbour is anyone who might need your love and attention. In that story race and religion didn't matter. I can't help but think that the modern day Samaritan might also be gay.
