I suppose I could have included Richard E. Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, and Joanna Lumley as long I'm including Rowan Atkinson, but you've got to draw a line somewhere.  ;D

Just one choice?  Nuts.

My crusade to watch every episode of Doctor Who from the beginning (including reconstructions of the lost episodes) proceeds apace.  I know it's going to take years, and I'm okay with that.

I'm into Jon Pertwee now, in his second season where he's still mostly stuck in 1970s Earth and working for UNIT.   Enjoying the hell out of it.  Is it just me, or was the Master the inspiration for just about every Scooby Doo villain a few years later?

Oh, Dr. Who.  I had no idea what this was about until I read Steve's post.  I have never seen a single second of Dr. Who and I probably Never will unless someone gives me a season on DVD.

I'm doing something the same, except that I started with Pertwee after watching a smattering of Hartnell and Troughton episodes.  I just finished The Daemons a few days ago (the last serial in Pertwee's second series, in which The Master was the antagonist in every story).

After watching the first two stories (An Unearthly Child/100,000 BC and The Daleks) I've come to the conclusion that Hartnell's Doctor was something of an ass.  Definitely my least favorite, beating out Colin Baker (who at least redeemed himself in some good Big Finish audios)

Heh, me neither! I was thinking it was going to be a poll on obscure actors or somesuch. :p

Also haven't seen any Dr. Who. Not for lack of interest, just opportunity. If someone lends me DVD's I'll watch em.

Peter Davidson was the Doctor when I was growing up, so I have a special fondness for him. But, given the option, I'd vote for "all of the above".

Davison.  But don't feel bad; when I first put the list up, #4 was John Pertwee  ;D

To paraphrase the Brigadier, "Splendid fellows, all of them."

I went for Tennant but it's a close run thing between him and Sylvester mcCoy who had some of my favourite stories outside of the current era, 'The Curse of Fenric' being a masterful story about growing up, adolescence and responsibility.

See, I voted for McCoy, in spite of the fact that he had some of the absolute worst stories I'd ever seen ("Delta and the Bannermen", anyone?  or how about "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy"?)  because I loved the way he played the character even when the scripts were shit.  And "Ghost Light" is still my favorite of any Doctor Who story.  I bought both that one and "The Curse of Fenric" on DVD, and might do the same for "Remembrance of the Daleks" (probably not "Survival" though.)
