I just watched "The Man From Earth" on DVD and it was fantastic.  This is a science fiction movie with zero special effects that basically consists of eight people sitting in a room talking.  And yet the story manages to have massive scope.  That is, if the confession one man is giving are true.  Not all of his companions - mostly college professors - believe him.  After all, his story is pretty incredible, and he doesn't have any proof.
This movie is a textbook example of how to do low budget SF.  It harkens back to the Twilight Zone (and actually the author, Jerome Bixby, wrote my favorite episode of that show.  As well as a few classic Star Trek TOS episodes).  It's honestly not fantastically directed, and the actors are almost all minor TV guys, most of whom acquit themselves okay, with two or three really good performances where they count.  And there something wrong with the color in some places.  But it really doesn't matter, because the story is good and the setup is so different.
Go forth and add it to your netflix queues!
