So I'm at some off site training this morning and I go to grab a bagel before class starts.  My stomach is feeling a little rough from eating nothing but rich food and drink on the company dime for the last couple of days, so I opt for a plain bagel.  That should mop up whatever is bugging me, right?  I take a bite and notice a strange taste.  Is that...pepper?  Big old chunks of pepper in my bagel.  WTH?  Anyone ever seen this before?  It was horrible.  Is this a west coast thing?  I've said it before and I'll say it again...bagels wish they were doughnuts.

Well, I know Einstein's sells a roasted red pepper bagel but I never tried it.

Crap, I realized my original post wasn't clear.  This wasn't like pepper like the fruit.  That would have been a lot better.  This was peppercorn.  Like the black stuff you grind up and sprinkle as a seasoning.  It does not belong in breakfast foods (except maybe eggs).  The worst part was that it was hidden within the bagel, so it looked like a plain from the outside.

I think it was just a horrible prank someone was playing.

I have eaten bagels such as these.  I like them.  Peppercorn is also good in good dinner rolls.  I live in Illinois, so it must not be exclusively a West Coast phenomenon.

They ought to be labeled though.

Peppercorns in bagels, I dunno.

A cafe nearby sometimes serves chili & chocolate flavoured gelato though, yum.
