my original review of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen -

The English language does not contain enough negative adjectives to describe this movie.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will forever live at the top of several important film lists, and I don’t mean the AFI best films of the decade either. No. Steven Norrington’s abomination is notable not only for adding to the list of current films based on popular comic books,but for topping the the list of terrible film adaptations of comic books, the list of bad Sean Connery movies, the list of great cinematic mistakes, the list of films that show a staggering geographic, historical, and literary ignorance, the list of films that openly hate their audience, and finally, the list of films so bad everyone involved in the production should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen isn’t a film, it’s an ordeal.

and yes, I know it was Gavarillo Princip that killed Franz Ferdinand and Sophie not Franjo, but I was so angry when I wrote the review I didn't care.

Highlander 2, the film which switched on my film critic gene.  12 year old sneaks in to see it, wanders out 90 minutes later with a list of inconsistencies several miles long and that's even before you get to the Immortals being from the planet Zebbo.  Ghastly.

Ghost in the Machine (not to be confused with Ghost in the Shell)....absolutely horrible.  It was about a serial killer that died in a CAT scan machine and ended up getting in the electrical grid.  He then proceeded to do what any good serial killer would do - kill people.  He just had to use small appliances like microwaves and blenders.  Terrible...

Geez.  Supernova sucked completely.  Highlander 2 took a fun story, cannibalized it, and vomitted it onto the screen.  Tough choice.  LXG and Mission to Mars are also crap, but I don't think they're as bad as the other two. 

In the end I went with Supernova.  As much as I hated Highlander 2, it might be conceivable that I could laugh at it.

I couldn´t possibly vote for Plan 9 from outer space. It´s a classic in the way none of the others are - they´re just travesties. Plan 9 took film places no director had dared before. Or since for that matter.

I agree it's a classic, but at the same time as much as I enjoy it, I also realize it is by no means a good movie.  I personally voted for S(t)upornova.  With Highlander 2 being a close second.

I can happily say that the only one of those movies I've actually seen is Plan 9 (which I love, in it's own cheese horrid way).

Still, I voted for Highlander 2.  Because without my even seeing it, it ruined the memory of a film I loved.  Before it came out I read a synopsis of the movie on the net.  Somebody claimed to have read the script, and posted a basic outline... this happened a lot, but sometimes someone would just post some BS or off season April Fools, just to get people riled up.  When I read storyline for Highlander 2, I just figured it was a joke.  Then when it came out, my housemate saw it, and came back babbling the same horrors.  Ug.

The only other time I read a real synopsis and figured it must be a joke was for Star Trek V.  The short form was "They meet Spock's previously unknown brother, who takes command of the Enterprise and takes it to the center of the galaxy where they meet God."  Ya.  Right.

Highlander 2 holds a special place of horror.  Sequels normally take the premise of the first movie and run it into the group or rework it in a horrible way, but this was a complete slice and dice of a classic.  It looked like they said, "OK, we're all set to make the sequel. Where's the script?" "umm, I thought you got one." "What do you mean?  It doesn't matter.  Just take one of the rejects out of the trash can and change the charactor names.  Make sure it's something science fictiony."

The recent adaptation (and I use this term very loosely) of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine.  Though I have to admit, I don't know the full depths to which it sucked, as my girlfriend at the time and I walked out of it about an hour in.

Alone in the dark was a really cool video game, with a truly creepy lovecraftian feel to it.  *sigh*

Having seen Zhardozh, I thought this was an arguable claim.  But your review of LXG brought back memories that I'd suppressed.  Time had fuzzed the horror so that I was nearly at the stage of renting it from the video store "to see if it's as bad as I remember".  [shudder]  It really was much, much worse.
