thanks

Do you back up your files regularly? If you do, there might be a copy in there.

okay, try this... if you want the fastest way and dont wanna see the process, just skip to right after the last step to see the shortcut lol
1. go to windows explorer (computer)
2. C drive
3. press alt to open the file/edit/view/etc bar.
4. go into tools, folder options
5. go to the view tab
6. in the hidden files and folders section, make sure you can see hidden files
7. press ok, exit out, etc.
8. C:\Users
9. Find your username, in my case it is Brian, so i go to C:\Users\Brian
10. There is a folder that was hidden called AppData, go there
11. Now go to the Roaming folder
12. In there find the Mozilla folder
now its C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla
13. Firefox folder
14. Profiles folder
15. pak8s4ok.default folder
now its C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\pak8s4ok.default
16. should be a Bookmarkbackups folder, and there should be a few files there, all are backups of your bookmarks. :) id think the last one in the list is the most recent.  They are JSON files
so in the end you are in
C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\pak8s4ok.default\bookmarkbackups
if you want you can just replace 'brian' there with your username that appears in the C:\Users folder, and you'll go right to it :)

hope that works!

Couldn't you just import the file? (I'm asking a serious question here--this is something I'll probably need to know one day!)

I had no problems on the other machine when I upgraded the OS.  My question here is that since I don't have classic on this new machine and only have an OSX version as an upgrade, how do I install it?

I'm just going to jump into it tonight or tomorrow.  I copied over the program from my old machine already, but it doesn't work because the supporting files aren't there.  It says I need to reinstall.  I'm hoping that it will take that as a previous version already installed and let me upgrade.

Buying a new copy is not an option right now.

The newer versions of OSX have Classic running "invisibly".  The machine no longer boots a Classic mode window or icon.  I am going to mail this thread to my buddy the Apple tech and see what he has to say.  I still think that you should be okay though.  Let me know how it works out.

podiobooks + firefox
is anyone else having problems or is that just me?
it works fine in IE but firefox is having issues
**edit**
IE gave me some issues getting to my subscriptions but now it works

I use Opera of late.  It works fine for most things, but my wife was unable to access Photobucket using it from my computer.

I don't use Photobucket so it's not an issue for me.

Is this still true with Leopard on Intel Macs?

My G4 Quicksilver tower (ca. 2001) had its L2 cache fail (with very bizarre and unpleasant effects), so now I'm looking at buying a higher end Mini. And a Firewire enclosure for the 2nd hard drive in case I have to boot from the backup.

[later]
It doesn't seem likely.

Yep, the Intel macs have completely broken from all that has come before.  While they will run software not specifically written for Intel macs, they boot yet another "emulator" and for large programs like anything Adobe, that can take an annoying amount of time.  This means some older stuff is not going to run (basically anything that requires a specific Classic Mode boot OS 9, although I have had success with some programs like Diablo II). Apple has just about finished with the backwards compatiblilty to older machines.  This does suck for people who cannot afford to re-invest in hardeware and software, it is good for the end user.  A lot of the problems Windoze experiences is because everything has to be backwards compatible to like 1989 (exageration I know, but it is outrageous).

You will definitely appreciate the new machine.  My G4 Quicksilver tower (the Dual Core beastie) crashed hard and horribly and I lost absolutely everything (somehow the hard drives got fried in the crash too, along with the power converter, the RAM, yeah pretty much everything).  I call it The Infocalypse (props to Stephenson).  So I took that as a sign to buy one of the shiny new Intel Macs.  I love it, and I even partitioned and polluted my drive with XP.  Dual OS boots FTW.  Even the Mac Minis are a serious machine now.

I've used my wife's Mini, and it is a world of difference. The G4 Quicksilver was a hand-me-down from her. I had borrowed hers occasionally to do some recording for Librivox.org, because it is so quiet-running. You have to put your ear right on it to hear anything.

I'm waiting to accumulate a bit more disposable income before I place the order for a Mini. In the meantime I've resurrected my old G3 "Blue & White" tower, just so I could get podcast updates, change the playlists on my iPod, and so on.

Well, not all people use Macs for CGI, but there is a strong majority that do.  Macs are (if you ask me) the best machine for computer animation, video and audio recording and editing, and pretty much anything to do with graphic design and desktop publishing.  You can do these things on a PC running Windows, but why would you want to?  If all you do is play games and calculate spreadsheets, PC's are the way to go (that is why I dual boot, for the games), this is why PC continue to dominate the computer market.

Wow, I had one of those too, they looked so cool and futuristic (until the iFruit iMacs came out anyway, those this looked awful), and at the time, kicked some serious butt processing wise.  Probably my favourite Mac in design (although I do like my white plastic iMac, the aluminum doesn't do it for me)  I now covet the PowerMac towers.  Independant fans for each bay!  2 Optical drives!  5 hard drives!, 8 processors!  All the cable ports on the front!  And the design is very very sharp.  Looks like "the computer of the future"; industrial, sleek, cool.

NEW QUESTION
I have an old laptop, it's mostly dead. I'd like to harvest the hard drive and slip it in to an external case. The problem seems to be that I have no idea what I'm actually doing and have managed to order the wrong type of case twice now. It's something about the pin configuration that relates to the fact that my hard drive is easily accessible on my laptop, not hidden behind several panels.
Help?

You really, really need to supply more information before anyone could hazzard a guess as to what the problem is. For example, what is the make and model of your laptop? Was the HD built in, or an add-on? What cases have you ordered? It might be a good idea to take a picture of the HD and the pin configuration and post it, as well.

At the moment, all I can say is "yes, something is probably wrong".
Heh.. solved it myself.
Turns out I'm an idiot. There was a small adapter stuck on to the HD that turns the pins in to slots. Pull that off and it's good to go just like every other HD.

How do you fight a bully that can un-make history?

exactly.  Now im wondering if only macs are capable of dual boots at the moment or can a pc dual boot too?  Not that i need a dual boot computer right now, but i find pcs to be better for cheaper.

Done and done.
Actually, I ordered three different ones before figuring it out, so Shwankie and I each have one for our dead computers, and I sent one on to my brother in MI.

its the best thing to do.  I got an external converter when i got my new laptop, so my old hard drive is easily accessible, and all my old files too.  Made reinstalling everything MUUUUCH easier.  Its pretty funny tho, i went into it to get onto my old Documents folder, and it said that i did not have security clearance because i was not the owner of the drive and the folder.  then it asked me if i wanted to become the owner of the folder... naturally yes i wanted to.  so it told me i had to go to the properties of the folder in the security tab and make myself the owner... which i figured out how to do quite easily... no password questions asked, nothing.  It seemed pretty stupid for it to make me go through this whole system before letting me into the folder, when it doesnt even try to stop me once im doing it...  anyways i had to do it for every single folder that i wanted to get into (but not folders within those folders, you just click a little box saying own all subfolders)...

i just thought its pretty funny
"no you cant get in... do you want to?"
"sure!"
"well then just do this this and this and you are in!"
"okay!"
"welcome!"

Because recording and editing .WAV files using Nero Wave Edit on my PC is cheaper and easier than buying a second computer.  I don't do animation or video or desktop publishing, so it doesn't make sense to buy a Mac in addition to my PC.

Just saying ... you did ask.
