Hey, I dug it. Anyone else see this? The reviews have been brutal but I really enjoyed the film. Go figure - especially since I hate the Prequel trilogy and am ambivalent to the Original Trilogy.

From listening to the latest Pancast (the second one since Alasdair vanished) I'm given to understand that it's about as shallow as a half-full kiddie's wading pool.  I doubt I'll even bother with it when it's on DVD.

I can't imagine that it could possibly be worse than Return of the Sith1.  Then again, I thought nothing could be worse than The Phantom Menace2.  Of course it could be okay, and I am sure that there will be legions of people that will love it (that always happens, like with the new Indian Jones3), but I would rather spend my time and money on something that isn't a ninety minute commercial for video games and action figures.

I have said it before and I will say it again: it's like Lucas had never even seen Star Wars.  Too much time on Skywalker Ranch listening to the sycophants tell him he is the greatest movie maker in the history of film.

1:  I used the real name since the one I use is not appropriate for polite discussion.
2:  See above.
3:  Why was this movie even made, besides raking in cash for Spielberg and Lucas and the MPAA?

Apologies for that.  My workload and real life...well...life hit a point where something had to go and...it was the PanCast.  There will be a final Doctor Who, it will be soon, but right now that's all I have.

My review -

Star Wars: The Clone Wars
(2008)
review by Big McLargehuge
The only thing I like less than the Star Wars prequels are slavishly devoted fans of the Star Wars Saga. It's a friggin movie series, build a bridge and get over yourselves! There, I said it. Reading the other reviews of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, I had a distinct feeling that so many hearts were broken it was like a meteor strike on the cardiac ward at Brigham and Women's Hospital. What the hell did people expect from what is effectively three episodes of the upcoming Cartoon Network series strung into a motion picture? I know, I know, you're thinking, "Big, Great Leader, King of the Hall of Shame, you can't be suggesting that people reviewed Star Wars: The Clone Wars based on some idealized childhood fantasy of how extremely fantastic all the other properties were, and thus, could not bring themselves to enjoy a flat out space opera?"

In a nutshell, yes I am.

The wife and I have missed you.  :(  Particularly since we've been waiting for your take on the season finale.

I'm a huge SW fan -- and a somewhat forgiving one.  I didn't hate the prequels like a lot of people, and actually really enjoyed Sith.  But I'm not really looking forward to this.  Trying to decide if I'll even watch it on DVD.

Jeff, have you seen the original Clone Wars cartoon?  I'd be interested in hearing how that compared.

I never managed to see more than a handful of the cartoons. The hyper-stylized art didn't do anything for me.
