when you think of escape pod what images jump to mind? a world populated by trees and genetic hybrids? an entire people seeing a night sky for the first time?

think about ep right now (without looking at episode titles, before looking at other people's posts) and note the first six or seven images that come to mind. my list surprised me a little, it isn't always your favourite stories that you think of first.

they were doing something like this over at the drabblecast, seemed like a good idea. =)

Anna Eley totally won me over with that one.  As a reading, I think it's her personal best.

The most indelible image for me is a toss-up between the nightfall in Nightfall, and the sentient gas mask in How Lonesome a Life Without Nerve Gas.

I Twitter. I also occasionally blog on the Escape Pod blog, which if you're here you shouldn't have much trouble finding.

What are the images that bring up those episodes?
The architecture, with the spiral ramp to heaven, and the temples big enough for God to fit in.
The bar scenes, with people talking about how to recognise an alien.
Squonk making a wizard's hat for himself.
Business meetings with your future self.
The arguments over traps to include.
The Cththulu Pumpkin itself.
The great desert, made up of worn-away corpses.
The distinctly alien attitudes towards hospitality and business.

Science means that not all dreams can come true

Hmm.... images.

Two from EP123: Niels Bohr and the Sleeping Dane
1: The dad and son sitting and talking in the train
2: The Sleeping Dane (Holger Danske) himself:

3: the mixed crowd of people gathered in a very mundane suburban home, discussing what to do in EP130: What We Learned From This Morning's Newspaper

4: the pot in EP022: Don Ysidro

5: the masks that Daikaiju wear (every episode, of course)

6: the hilltop in EP102: The Angle of My Dreams

I was going to include the eponymous "Flat Diane", but that's a Pseudopod ep 26

I feed The Pod.

Thanks for the pictures, Planish. Now I see why the stone golem kicked so much Nazi ass. He's huge! And ripped!

1> Chinese dinner over a video store counter
2> An endless wall of knowledge
3> An alien weapon system made of people parts
4> A woman arguing with her robot about clearing the path of snow
5> Asquirrelwhotalkstoofast
6> A father, son, and scientist discussing metaphysics in a train.

Funny how some of my favourite stories have left no single, defining image, yet stories that I didn't like or creeped me out (#3) spring almost immediately to mind.  Oh, and one more.

7> Swish, swish, goes the tail of the woman at the bar.
