If this doesn't strike you as a weird forum, show me ones that are weirder.

That sounds like a challenge to me.

Yes, yes it is.

I accept your challenge, sir.  Cracked.com presents the 8 weirdest forums on the web. (NSFW) http://www.cracked.com/article_15250_wtf-8-strangest-communities-on-web.html

I did not need to see homoerotic Kirk and Spock.

I Twitter. I also occasionally blog on the Escape Pod blog, which if you're here you shouldn't have much trouble finding.

Me either, I thought number one was much weirder.  I... I don't even know what to say about it.  I never would have thought that one up, not in a million years.

Being familiar with furries and their odd predilictions, the boytaurs didn't surprise me - well, not too much.  And slash fiction has dozens upon dozens of forums, and tons of fans.  Nothing surprising there.  Not my thing, but I know plenty of folks - all women - who are really quite into it.

What got me was a forum for chewing ice.  Uh, what is there to talk about?  I mean, I've been known to crunch on a cube myself.  And I guess it makes some of my friends cringe.  But I never thought about it much, and certainly never felt the need to write about it or find a like-minded community.  Huh.  Much stranger than the chicken thing - even with costumes.

is chewing ice strange?  Every time (or at least most times) i have a cup, with ice in it, i end up chewin on the ice... never seen anyone cringe because of it, most of my friends chew ice, etc.  never knew it was an anomaly...

I'd like to hear my options, so I could weigh them, what do you say?
Five pounds?  Six pounds? Seven pounds?

Because you don't fetishize it. The internet lets all those sub-sub-sub-groups that fetishize weird things come together and rationalize their fetish. Chewing ice every now and then isn't a problem, doing it purposefully to the point of obvious detriment to one's well-being is.

Are you necessarily doing it to your detriment just because you want to talk about it?  By being here, I'm I SFing to my detriment.

Someone save me before I SF again!!

Well, some things are worse than others, and the excerpt through the link has the guy talking about how he's going to have to get caps for a lot of his teeth. Last I heard SF didn't rot or chip your teeth.

I had a teacher tell me once sf rots your brain "just like television."  (She was mad I was reading in her class.) Oddly, she also assigned us to read Jurassic Park and Ender's Game that semester.  Of course, this is also the teacher who told me she was planning on paying for her kids' college education with beanie babies, and she'd never heard of "The Divine Comedy."   Worst English teacher evar.
