Maybe the problem is that I expected it to be easy and learned too late that is extremely challenging. The difficulty of life combined with the disapointment brought by major experience (love, work, friendship) keeps me up or makes me bury my head under the pillow.

Mod:
This is Spam!  The link in the signature goes to a porn site!  Do not feel the need to be nice in your responses.

I've never heard of this story.  Who's it by?

[EDIT]

The OP was originally in the "Science Fiction Discussion" forum; it's since been moved here to Gallimaufry.  My reply doesn't make sense unless that is known.

Well folks,  Since this one is spam (The signature goes straight to a porn site), I was going to delete it.  Instead I thought I'd let all of you take your best swing at it, while I ask Steve to ban the poster.  No need to be nice or even civil.  The moderators won't be watching this one very closely.

I meant, don't feel any need to be nice to the original poster.  Keep my mother out of it.

makes me bury my head under the pillow.

Only works if someone then dumps 6 feet of earth on the pillow.

Why not break the link and munge the address, so as to completely defeat the spam while still leaving the post up to ridicule?  As it stands, the site is still being advertised here.

Looks like the ban didn't stick.  Hang on.

I guess it takes all sorts...

This has to be a below minimum wage job... creating profiles - complete with sig lines - just to spam highly niche forums. I wonder if he's also hit the chicken one?

It's almost as good as the friend of a friend (crappy beginning for a trustworthy anecdote, I know) who had the job of photoshopping thongs on hookers arses in the personal ads of a San Fran newspaper.

The Great N-sh whispers in my ear, and he's talking about you.

I deleted the account too.  Thanks again, Russell, for reminding me that a ban doesn't do that; it just prevents future logins.

Really, I'd call it a pretty good track record, if spam is rare enough here that a single spammer causes this sort of fuss and amusement.

I think it's closer to five plus the one guy Steve chucked for being an ass.  Makes our job pretty easy.

More like six, I deleted a spam thread a few minutes after it was created and IM'd Steve to kill the user, I think I forgot to PM you guys about that one.

I Twitter. I also occasionally blog on the Escape Pod blog, which if you're here you shouldn't have much trouble finding.

No, you deleted yourself.  We had nothing to do with it.  Besides if it had been you, I would have mentioned you by name.  You also wouldn't be able to read this, because Steve IP bans.  That means no one from that IP can get back into the forums, even if they try to make a new ID.

The OP was kind of prophetic though.  Nothing in life is easy.  We even had trouble banning his spamming ass.  Maybe there was more to him after all.  Oh well

ip bans dont necessarily keep out spammers.  its quite easy to fake an ip/change an ip.
but for the average user tis enough :)

Also, a lot of spam comes from "zombie" machines -- PCs owned by ordinary people that got infected with a virus.  So the IP may not have any connection to the person whose fault it is.

Then there are people that use a wireless provider that gives a new IP for every connection.
