New Star Trek trailer here.

Looks pretty cool, although I'm not sure about the opening bit with the car going off the cliff bit. I mean, that would all look fantastic -- full of energy and everything -- if it wasn't Trek. So I'll have to wait and see how it fits in.

I'm not as huge a Trek fan as some, but I have fond memories of watching TOS reruns and TNG with my dad. I'm hoping this is as cool as the trailer makes me want to believe it is. Anyways, I got lots of chills watching this, especially toward the end. Hope it's good.

Doesn't look as bad as a new Star Trek might, although to be honest I have only seen two of them. Interesting trailer though.

That looks great. I mean, seriously, great. As in exactly the sort of epic scale science fiction/action I was hoping it would be. The standouts for me:

-That first shot of the Enterprise at the construction yards.
-'I LIKE this ship! It's EXCITING!' Simon Pegg!Is!Perky Scotty!
-Space is disease and danger, wrapped in darkness and silence.' And in one line, Karl Urban sells me on his take on Bones and positions him as the ship's grown up.
-Orbital diving!
-Bruce Davison!

I am now very, very excited about this:)

Did Karl Urban do the narration, or just that one line? Geez, I mean he was pretty much unrecognizable in that shot -- I didn't even realize it was him 'til you said something.

Yup, Mandatory Viewing. Maybe not opening night, but close...

I like the edginess and grittiness that come through. It's what Star Trek needs right now...

I had no idea this was coming out, and yes, the trailer looks awesome! I can't wait...I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, but I've seen Pretty much all of the the original, TNG and Voyager (except for the finale)...(Or at least all of them that 38 the Spot plays

I was never a big fan of TOS (was more of a TNG watcher), but this does look cool. Gotta love Simon Pegg and Sylar as Scottie and Spock. Plus the girl who plays Uhura...yeah...

For the purpose of watching this movie I plan to split my brain in two. One half of my brain will relentlessly take note of and grumble over every inconsistency and deviation from established Trek canon. That half will be be kept in check by my brain's dominant half, which will enjoy the movie on its merits.

Um... I understood that Enterprise was built at the Utopia Planitia yards in geosynchronous ("areosynchronous"?) orbit above Mars. Whatever. Never let the "facts" get in the way of a good story.

Yeah, that got me going. I'm gonna' watch it just to see him as Scotty. How much do you wanna bet his character had a history of making unauthorized hotrod mods to ships, which earn him wrist-slaps but will, of course, eventually save the crew.

I've read screening reports that say that the ship under construction is the Enterprise.

I'm not sure if I like that more or less...

JJ Abrams? He's got guts, man. Check this out.

Essentially, Paramount gathered up 200 hardcore Star Trek fans in Austin, told them they were going to see a new print of Wrath of Kahn along with 10 minutes of the new film, and then pulled their own version of the Kobayashi Maru - showed them 5 minutes of Kahn and all of the new film.

And people went nuts for it.

I think I've seen every episode since 'Encounter at Farpoint' at least once, don't have any interest in the extended universe and don't have any interest in this film. If friends are going to see it I might tag along, otherwise I'll wait for the DVD.

I just feel that, after Enterprise, they should be trying to find a new future for the post TNG, post-Voyager Star Fleet, rather than going back and meddling with their own history. It seems unhealthy and could finish off the franchise for good.

I just saw an advance screening last night. Spoiler-free review:

AWESOME.

There was one thing that I really didn't like, a few things that really surprised me, and if you look VERY carefully in one scene, you can see James Cawley (Captain Kirk on Phase II) for about 1/3 of a second.

The music was pretty good, but I think they should've incorporated the theme (the first part, anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdjL8WXjlGI) a little more.

If anyone wants spoilers, I'll be glad to share them in a separate thread or behind white text.
