With the knowledge that the BBC is going to be making a new Triffid series I was thinking of them.
Wyndham wrote that they were produced because of the oil they produced. That would fit the world today wouldn't it!
Then I started thinking about why they have stings at all, then remembered about the killer bees that we (Mankind) bred and let lose into the world, just because they were better for honey.
So it would seem likely that we could and would invent a nasty version of "Oilseed Rape" just for the oil.
