I have a double A (AA) battery in front of me, now, that is making scratching noises. Not connected to anything, no magnets nearby- it's still, on the table, making scratching noises! Have I finally lost it completely or does this happen all the time? It sounds like a small alien is escaping from the battery...

That happened to me once. It's actually a demon, not an alien. Holy water helps.

I don't know about your battery, but I just heard the most ominous sound ever from outside my window. It lasted a few minutes, and it took me half that time to realize that it was coming from the real world, not a tv or computer (which were both turned off) and that I wasn't listening to my ipod.

It was - well, it sort of sounded mechanical, coupled with blowing wind and rain (which is appropriate since it's windy and rainy). But it was very loud and didn't sound like any vehicle I've ever heard - not that I can hear the road from my flat (which faces away from it) anyway. Then it went away.

It's obvious what's going on. The aliens are trying to confuse us so that we are weak and disorganized when they strike.
