A virtual unknown 26-year-old named Matt Smith with less than ten entries on his IMDB will be the eleventh Doctor.

Seriously?  I'm the first one here with this?  I only just learned it listening to the DWO Whocast in bed last night.

I've seen a couple of the things Smith's done, specifically the two Sally Lockhart adaptations the BBC did last year.  He's really good, a bit more physically imposing than Tennant but has the same sort of intelligence, the same authority.  He's got some serious theatre credits too (Starring with Christian Slater in Swimming with Sharks, part of the National Theatre's second cast for The History Boys) so he's got more acting chops than first appears.

Plus the dude looks ace in period clothing:)

He's funny-looking.  Really high forehead that his hair does nothing to help (the way I saw it worn anyway), and his eyes are deep-set (or his brow protrudes) causing them to be in shadow most of the time.  My wife* doesn't think she can get over that, but I'm still waiting to see him in the role before I pass judgment.

*not really a fan of classic Who -- or any Who other than the tenth Doctor for that matter; Tennant just makes the show for her.

David Tennant is the best doctor since Patrick Troughton. He was amazing as the Doctor I thought. Tom Baker I never liked.

Who knows about this guy, really? We haven't seen him in action yet. I remember when Tennant first came in with that "Barcelona!" line and I thought the show had just got a whole lot worse. Then I got used to and loved the way he played the role. So I'm willing to give this new guy time too.

Tennant keeps me watching. I'll give the new boy a chance- but he's soooo young.

Oh, great and mighty Alasdair, Orator Maleficent, He of the Silvered Tongue, guide this humble fangirl past jumping up and down and squeeing upon hearing the greatness of Thy voice.
Oh mighty Mur the Magnificent. I am not worthy.
