Okay, I'm going to step up with mine - but as previously mentioned, they are in a different format.

Ten things.  THREE are lies.  Seven are true.

2. I was once arrested at Disneyland
4. I am considered a saint in at least one religion
9. I've been quoted on the Animal Planet Network

2 -- Because Disneyland is private property, if you were "arrested" it was probably by security, not by the police.
4 -- I just can't buy this.
9 -- Too plausible.

I'm just picking one.  It's not as much fun to do the big list when you don't know people better.

I'll pick 7.

Let's bring it back to the 3/1 after this, and people can go more than once if they have really good ones.   ;D

Since this was posted as 3 truths and a lie I will also only pick one.

I'm going with #8.

1. I have played a christian surfer in a movie  -  Sure, some small indie film.  You know enough about movies that I can believe a friend of yours worked on an indie project.
2. I was once arrested at Disneyland  -  Don't buy it
3. I have had a pet fruitbat  -  OK
4. I am considered a saint in at least one religion  -  Sure, it only takes four people to start a religion.
5. I have officiated at an illegal lesbian wedding  -  Sure, as part of said religion.  Maybe this is why you were sainted.
6. I have been a guest of a Worldcon speaking about SETI  -  OK
7. I have been published in Analog Science Fiction Magazine  -  I'm going to say no, because I think this is a goal.
8. I've been quoted during a session of the U.S. congress  -  Sure, probably something to do with #6 or because a rep quoted a letter you sent.
9. I've been quoted on the Animal Planet Network  - OK
10. I've been quoted in the OED under "geek"  -  Nope, probably another goal

Okay, it's been a day - and no one is ever going to guess the correct three anyway.  This list was created a few years back and posed on a different forum to friends who have known me for years, and no one guessed all three.  So here are the stories:

1. I have played a christian surfer in a movie
True.  I was an extra in a surfer movie caled "Under the Boardwalk". This was right after I graduated from high school, and it was a great job - paid to lay on the beach with pretty girls in bikinis all day. And I got extra money for being part of an "identifiable group" as one of the Christian surfers. Gotta love Hollywood unions.

2. I was once arrested at Disneyland
True, for trespassing.  I was about 13 at the time, and my older brother was working at the Blue Bayoo restaurant over the summer.  On his last day, he brought me and my nephew (who's a year older than me, actually) along.  He didn't realize the park closed early for a private party though, since he had to work into the night for the private party.  So instead of calling mom to drive us home early, he hid us - in the jungle of the jungle boat ride - while they cleared the park.  Park security made him move along when he came to get us, and LONG story short, caught us when we tried to sneak back into the park proper on our own.  The security brought us to a backstage holding area, where we were run through paperwork by a bunch of officers who repeatedly told us they were REAL police officers working for the REAL Anaheim police.  They were a bit insecure about it, I'd say.

3. I have had a pet fruitbat
False.  I wish.

4. I am considered a saint in at least one religion
True, and as Russell pointed out, it only takes four people to start a religion.  The Discordians are somewhat bigger than that though.  They sainted me for creating the Coalition to Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide.  Of course, I'm only a second class Discordian Saint.  To be a first class saint, like Bugs Bunny, one is required to be fictional.

5. I have officiated at an illegal lesbian wedding
False.  However, none of my friends ever guessed this one to be a lie, probably because I have many lesbian friends, and several of my girlfriends have been lesbian identified at one time or another.

6. I have been a guest of a Worldcon speaking about SETI
True.  In college I studied under Frank Drake, the co-founder of SETI along with Carl Sagan. And I participated in something called the Bateson Project SETI simulation at Contact with a bunch of PhDs. But they knew nothing about roleplaying, so I kind of revolutionized the whole thing. For which I was invited with the rest of them to speak at WorldCon San Francisco. I also gave a solo panel on the search for extrasolar planets, which was my thesis topic.

7. I have been published in Analog Science Fiction Magazine
True.  I could have made it even more unbelievable by saying that I've been published in an SF magazine yet never in my life received a rejection letter. The editor of Analog emailed me from out of the blue and asked if they could publish the Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide page.

8. I've been quoted during a session of the U.S. congress
True.  Once again, it's all the falt of that pesky dihydrogen monoxide. A congresswoman took the floor to read a newspaper article about DHMO which stated that you could probably convince most congressmen to ban it. Which was more or less my point. This was years before Orange County almost passed a law based on it.

9. I've been quoted on the Animal Planet Network
False.  Yup, just threw it in there because it sounded plausible.

10. I've been quoted in the OED under "geek"
True, although I have to admit this was a bit sketchy.  The quote was in the first online edition of the OED.  I had a web page at the time (1994 or so) that gave a history of the term geek, along with it's usage in the Santa Cruz geek scene of the time.  The editors emailed me asking permission to use it.  They not only quoted my page, but provided a link to it in the entry.  It never made the print edition, and the online edition removed it eventually.

I'd like to jump in, if that's all right.

1. When I was 18, a 29-year-old woman once bought me a round-trip plane ticket to St. Louis for pretty much the sole purpose of the two of us having sex.

2. I have every single "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode on video tape, because my dad taped them all when they first ran.

3. My voice has been heard on six different radio stations during the same 24-hour period.

4. In college I forgot to write a short-story for my fiction workshop, so I dashed off a quick one the night before that was pretty much a MarySue of me defeating professional wrestler Goldberg.

I'm going to go with #1, because that's pretty much every 18-year-old boy's fantasy.

1.  Process of elimination only...  false.  I believe it could have happened, though.
2.  I have every single "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode on video tape, because I taped them all when they first ran, so... true.
3.  I'm guessing your voice was in some one item that all six of them ran (news or promo, not sure) so... true.
4.  I don't know what a "MarySue" is, but I've read some of what you've written, so... true.

4.  I don't know what a "MarySue" is,…

I had to look it up.
Quote from: Wikipedia
Mary Sue, sometimes shortened simply to Sue, is a pejorative term used to describe a fictional character who plays a major role in the plot and is particularly characterized by overly idealized and hackneyed mannerisms, lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as wish-fulfillment fantasies for their authors or readers. Perhaps the single underlying feature of all characters described as "Mary Sues" is that they are too ostentatious for the audience's taste, or that the author seems to favor the character too highly. The author may seem to push how exceptional and wonderful the "Mary Sue" character is on his or her audience, sometimes leading the audience to dislike or even resent the character fairly quickly; such a character could be described as an "author's pet".

Those are all pretty believable.  I'm going to go with 2: just because it's too mundane.

Thanks!  I should have looked it up myself, but didn't, oddly enough because I was tired after having spent waaaay too much time reading the email in the Easter egg on http://www.justfuckinggoogleit.com/

Sorry, I forgot to post the answer last night. Was busy watching TV.

Those are all pretty believable.  I'm going to go with 2: just because it's too mundane.

You got it.

Quote
1. When I was 18, a 29-year-old woman once bought me a round-trip plane ticket to St. Louis for pretty much the sole purpose of the two of us having sex.

TRUE. We met over AOL (don't judge) and she came to Orlando. We saw Star Trek First Contact together, and then had what I thought was a one-night stand. She traveled a lot for her job so she had a bunch of TWA free flight vouchers, and she used two of them to fly me to St. Louis for us to spend a weekend together. When I got there it was pretty clear what she had in mind. Unfortunately it ended badly and I haven't spoken to her since mid-1999. I wish I remembered her last name so I could see what she's up to and, more importantly, apologize.

Quote
2. I have every single "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode on video tape, because my dad taped them all when they first ran.

FALSE. But not in the way you might think. My dad did attempt to tape them all, but we missed six or seven due to tape errors or preemptions. The missing episodes include "Q Who", the one with the Pakleds, and "The Drumhead", along with a few others I can't name off the top of my head.

Quote
3. My voice has been heard on six different radio stations during the same 24-hour period.

TRUE. I used to work for Cox Radio in Orlando, and right after 9/11, I was doing news updates on all five FM stations as well as traffic reports on the one AM station.

Quote
4. In college I forgot to write a short-story for my fiction workshop, so I dashed off a quick one the night before that was pretty much a MarySue of me defeating professional wrestler Goldberg.

TRUE. It was really, really bad, but somehow it was enough for me to get credit for finishing that assignment. Nothing I wrote that semester was at all good, to be honest.

I had similar issues in taping them. Missed different eps then you did- but I would have probably gone with this one too.

I had similar issues with Babylon 5.  I ordered them from Columbia House. (I know, I know.)  I was ahead of the release schedule, so I would get like 4 or 5 tapes at a time.  I was down to needing less than 10 tapes to complete my collection when the DVDs were released.

::headthump::

The good news is that they have been passed around to family and friends.  If anyone wants to be next in line, let me know.

Speaking of next in line, who's next?

1. I've been to Las Vegas three times.

2. I've lived in every west coast state of the USA (unless Alaska counts)

3. I've written a novel.

4. Nothing particularly noteworthy has ever happened to me in my dull little life.

Nah; I own all the DVDs including the original release of In The Beginning / The Gathering as well as the movie collection, and The Lost Tales.

Plus, I recorded them all as they aired (so I got the first season out-of-sequence, with Signs and Portents second-to-last when it really belongs mid-season).  Those tapes I gave away to my uncle.

1 -- that's easy to say "true" to because I've done the same.

2 -- there are only three. Plausible.

3 -- I'll say FALSE to this because not everyone's written a novel, even though common wisdom says everyone's written a novel. But I'm saying FALSE in that you've "completed" the novel... because I know we all tried to START one.

4 -- I can't believe I'm saying this is true, but I am.

Ok, let me have a go:

1 - I once uncovered a case of fraud in an Israeli military prison.

2- I failed a driving test because I was driving with my eyes closed.

3 - I am double-jointed, and I can bend my fingers backwards so that they touch the back of my hand.

4 - Once, a taxi I was riding was stopped by the police. It turned out that the driver was an escaped felon who had stolen the vehicle, then proceeded to drive it as usual.

#3 is too obvious, but I'm concerned it might fall prey to "if half is true and half is false than the entire statement is false".

I'll go with #4. Sounds a little too "American Gods" to me.
