The first person to post a complete list of Alasdair's pop culture references at the end of his outros will win a prize.  I don't know what yet.

I want the following format:

Episode X:  Name of Episode.  "Alasdair's quote"  what the pop culture reference was.

Ready...
Set...
Go!

EDIT::DON'T FORGET TO USE THE PROPER WARDS!!!

Okay Z- since Al drops pop culture references throughout quite a few of his outros I'm going to need clarity. Do you mean the end quote my example being the first one I could find: "Psudopod knows about the little girl you claim to have seen but she died years ago"  or do you mean ANY pop culture quotes/references made throughout the outro? 'Cause I'm all for hours of listening to Al outros for fun. After all it's not creepy if it's for a game.  Right?

Oh, great and mighty Alasdair, Orator Maleficent, He of the Silvered Tongue, guide this humble fangirl past jumping up and down and squeeing upon hearing the greatness of Thy voice.

I'm referring to the closing quotes.  But, if you want to go ahead and list all of his pop culture references... well, I think you need some help!   :D  Bonus for additional info.

I don't know if I can get the prize I want to give away for this.  I'll just say that I'd like to mimic Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me!

Extra note- I know I'm missing some, If noone else guesses the references I plan on putting up the quotes with a reference: ? beside it to see if anyone else knows. I've got a pretty good brain for pop culture trivia but there are some of these that have me stumped. Example: Psudopod is off down the Winchester.  I wish I were cool/smart enough to get this one but I'm totally not getting it. And Google was no help what so ever.

Ha!  That's the main reason I picked this for a contest.  I know a lot of them, but some of them I missed.  If it takes too long and there are some that haven't been figured out, I might lend a hand.  I'm pretty sure all the ones I know are known by others.

I think you're right.  Question then, is Al referencing Shaun of  the Dead referencing Minder or is it simply coincidence?

I'm terrible at references. I don't know how Al does it :D.

But it would make me very happy if he were to do one along these lines:

"Pseudopod wants you to know that I'm not coming back"

which is a reference to Knives Out by radiohead  :P :P

yeah...

I need something relevant here.

Pseudopod wants you to know that the sky just caught fire. there's not going to be a lull.

Where's that from and what's the reference?

Same. I just know I've heard it before.

And that single RH reference has opened up a torrent of them in my mind... i'll never be able to stop...

Pseudopod wants you to know that the appliances have gone beserk.
(Last Flowers)
Pseudopod floats down the liffey.
(How To Disappear Completely)
Pseudopod wants you to know that we've got it all here in Red Blue Green.
(Videotape)
Pseudopod wants you to know that there's nothing to fear and nothing to doubt.
(Pyramid Song)
Pseudopod is sick of its clock stopping, winding up...
(Obscure early version of No Surprises)

or al could just scream
"LIGHTEN UP! YOU TAKE THINGS TOO SERIUSLEEEEEEEEEE!"

this is trolling of the most despicable kind. I'll stop now. Feel free to hit me with sticks (eddie izzard reference)

"Quick... must... die... in... symbolic way..."
*carves the words "I'm not here, this isn't happening" into naked torso (i'm always naked for some reason)*

I think that scene in hot fuzz where they jump the fences is a parody/skit on the original scene in Shaun of The Dead.

Oh, also two things that may be of help to you:

-I appear to have used lines from Cloverfield about three times.  They're slightly obscure ones so I'm okay throwing that out there.

-'There was a little girl, but she died YEARS ago...' is not remotely horror.  It's a line from one of the last Friends episodes where Chandler and Monica go and buy a house, and Joey gets talking to the little girl who lives there.

1. I skipped Cloverfeild, the intro scenes made me dizzy and I just couldn't keep watching. So, Any trivia pertaining to it will be missed by me.

2. DARNIT!  Evil evil mad genius! I used to watch Friends too- but very few quotes stuck with me. (well aside from the bit with the wearing all the clothes.)

 I...may sense a certain...kinship with Chandler...

Anyway!  The weird thing is the two kind of connect!  Cloverfield (Which is well worth a look by the way.  Try it, if you can, in daylight, dilutes the shaky a fair bit) is essentially a Friends episode called 'The One Where An Immense Monster Rampages Through Manhatten':)

Z- heeya! I've been meaning to get back to work on these all last week. However- Though I heart the trivia I've been a busy busy bee. Not enough time in not enough days. :P

I'd be happy to post the eps and the quotes, if you'd like the extra hand. The part that's taking the time is figuring out where they're from. I already have quite a few (more then half) listed.  Let me know. I should have some extra time coming to me here soonish (I hope) so I can actually "play"

I listened to all of Alasdair's intros and outros yesterday and took notes.  I listened to a few episodes, of PP along the way, so that slowed me down.   ;)  I have most of the stuff, but some of it is missing and some I'm not sure I heard correctly.  I don't have the best of hearing and sometimes I miss a word or two from Al.

I'm going to post the master list in the About Pseudopod forum and lock it.  We can keep this thread going for corrections and references.  I'll edit that post and once it's done, I'll unlock it.  Be patient, it's a lot of typing.

There were some repeats, and one whole outro was used twice.  I had asked Al before this if he had used a certain line, and he said he had.  It wasn't on any of the 'casts.  I don't know if he had recorded it and not used it, or if I had planted a memory in his brain.  If it's the latter, I need to plant one about the $5000 he owes me.   ;D

I get the feeling that sometimes he records different segments of the outros at different times, especially when there is a sponsor.

To get back on topic, I'm going to work on the answer post later today.  I'm probably also going to turn the thread into a complete episode list and list who the host was.

Oh, and one of the references wasn't by Al...

Wow.  Nice work, Z:)

Also, I'd like to apologise for using that Cloverfield line SIX.TIMES.

I'm off to watch a ton more movies and make some notes:)

Thanks, deflective!  All those "(huh)" bits in there?  Those were question marks that turned into emoticons.

I still haven't gotten approval or denial for Alasdair's voice on your home answering machine as a prize.  Although with us, I'm sure it would be voicemail.

PP77:  A bastardization of Quint's speech in Jaws, at least, I think it is.
PP85:  The Sixth Sense?
Deflective listed Alien3 for PP107, but it's for PP106.
PP116, PP125, PP128:  Masters of Horror

i moved the list into an editor so i could use my macros but forgot to change the (huh)s back.

the shark skinning quote sounded like jaws to me too but it could be deep blue sea.

That's one of the reasons why Al is so good at this.  Anyone can just spew forth a quote, word for word.  Al takes the quote, makes it his own and then spews it out.  He is the king, because he isn't covered in shite like the rest of us repressed individuals.

Hey, Alasdair, feel free to chime in with corrections and hints.

Deflective, the "$3000 to find him, $10,000 to kill him" was from Jaws

I'll need to redo the PPTV episode, it dropped the British accent from Al's character.  I worked on another one, but they are having problems with their system, and I couldn't finish it.  I'll do some more of those later.

ah, so right. my search technique is weak.

PP86:  The Wild Y.  Friday Night Lights(series): "Pseudopod wants you to know, there's a good chance you could die right here on this table."

the first season was really solid, odd connecting it to pseudopod tho.

Will do, Z.

That 'Die right here, on this table' line is from Awake.  Very odd movie featuring Hayden Christensen being fully aware as he's operated on by surgeons who may or may not want to kill him.

PP92:  The Sloan Men.
"Pseudopod figures if you're hungry, how about a piece of your friend?"
Alive

PP128:  Bone Mother and
PP125:  The Interview
"Pseudopod is all too aware, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then chances are, it's a duck with a meat clever."
Masters of Horror: Jenifer

PP124:  Scavenger.
"Pseudopod isn't surprised.  HuhHuh listen to the kid.  Of course, no one ever listens to the kid."
Eight Legged Freaks

PP92:  The Sloan Men.
"Pseudopod figures if you're hungry, how about a piece of your friend?"
Alive

You're on the money with Eight Legged Freaks (I do love that film) and Jennifer but this is actually from deeply crazy 'Futuristic commandos versus medieval knights in a post plague Scotland' movie Doomsday.

OK, we still need, according to my research, the following episode references.

56
65
70, 74, 75
85
90, 93, 94, 95, 98, 99
101, 102, 105, 108, 109
123, 127

I didn't see a definitive answer for PP72 or PP83.

I also would like anyone to point out any other errors.  I believe I put the confused emoticon in place where I know there are errors.

Please hurry, Swamp is getting angry.

99 and 108 are driving me crazy, because I know them but can't figure them out!

PP71:  The Intrusion. Silence of the Lambs: "Pseudopod not only doesn't hear the (Huh), Dr Lecter, it liked you better when you were (Huh)"

This was all me.  The actual line is 'Pseudopod not only doesn't hear the lambs Dr Lecter, but it liked you better when you were Brian Cox' which is a nod to my deep love of Manhunter, the first movie adaptation of Red Dragon.

PP87:  A Place of Snow Angels.  "Pseudopod's research into the Chevaillies (Huh) Effect is going far, far better than anyone could have anticipated."

   Again, all me.
PP94:  The Skull Faced Boy.  "Pseudopod realizes you need both things (Huh)"

PP95:  No Tomorrows.  "Pseudopod is talking to a plastic (Huh)"
'Pseudopod is talking to a plastic plant.'

PP119:  Pran's Confession.  "Pseudopod had a dream like that once.'
PP120:  Iowa Highway.  "Pseudopod has extensive files."

PP124:  Scavenger.  "Pseudopod isn't surprised.  (Huh) (Huh) listen to the kid.  Of course, no one ever listens to the kid."
'Of course, why would you listen to the kid.  No one ever listens to the kid.'

65 is driving me batty because: I remember the reference- sort of. The idea was the myth of how we got that little divit below our noses. I know I've heard this reference. Darnit.

Oh, great and mighty Alasdair, Orator Maleficent, He of the Silvered Tongue, guide this humble fangirl past jumping up and down and squeeing upon hearing the greatness of Thy voice.
Oh mighty Mur the Magnificent. I am not worthy.

These are mostly off the hip or long google searches I'm doing to avoid homework. So I apoligise for not putting my best brainwork into them.

70- cloverfield reference, is my guess.
74- Mimic? It's again a wild guess.

90- after an exausting google search all I turned up was Enemy of the state. Don't think that's right.
93- I think this is from Signs (I hated that movie though)
95- The Happening (Another google search, after Signs I refused to watch any more of this guys work)
99- The Kingdom

Couldn't think of anything else but seriously 65 I need to know what that's from 'cause otherwise I'll start going loopy (er)

70 is indeed a Cloverfield reference.  I was fascinated by the buzz surrounding it and there was a big contingent of people convinced for the first few months post trailer who were CONVINCED it was a secret Voltron movie and the line in the trailer was 'I saw it, it's a LION, it's HUGE!'

Is 120 from Terminator 2?  When Arnie is looking at Sarah's shoulder he says, "I have extensive files on human anatomy."

ok, so this is the myth of Lailah but is it referencing a particular movie?

Swamp's getting antsy, and angsty.  I've already done more work on this than I was going to.  I've given you the format and most of the quotes.  If you want Al's voice on your home answering machine, get to it!

Oh, and I'll probably get t-shirts made towards the end of the year, every ZARGA winner will receive one.

I am getting antsy, but I do want to know all of these references.  I've had fun with everyone else trying to guess these.  I just happen to suck at it.  I've gotten a couple, but many I just scratch my head.  I thought it might be helpful to list only the references not solved yet.  So here you go:

Items left to solve (or verify):

PP56:  Crab Apple.  "Pseudopod, despite what you claimed to have seen, didn't show up on any of the cameras we had installed."
PP72:  Heavy Rains.  Shaun of the Dead OR Minder? : "Pseudopod is off down the Winchester."
PP74:  Tumble.  "Pseudopod, these are lungs."
PP75:  The Mill.  "Pseudopod wants to know where you'll be when the dieing starts."
PP83:  Heartstrung. Hot Fuzz OR Shaun of the Dead? "Pseudopod wants to know what the matter is, you've never taken a shortcut before?"
PP85:  Living in Sepia.  "Pseudopod is ready to tell you a secret."
PP90:  The Exhibition.  "Pseudopod knows you should never touch the body."
PP93:  The Land of Reeds.  "Pseudopod wants to know if it's possible that there are no coincidences."
PP94:  The Skull Faced Boy.  "Pseudopod realizes you need both things (???)"
PP95:  No Tomorrows.  "Pseudopod is talking to a plastic plant"
PP98:  Among the Moabites.  "Pseudopod...Pseudopod can hear something coming."
PP99.  Photo Finish.  "Pseudopod wants to know how you want to go out, on your feet or on your knees?"
PP101:  Homecoming.  "Pseudopod wants to know, if they made a movie about all of this, who would play you?"
PP102:  Dear Killer.  "Pseudopod cannot be harmed by conventional weaponry."
PP105:  Pattern Masters.  "Pseudopod, Pseudopod is kind of funny lookin'."
PP109:  In the Coils of the Serpent.  "Pseudopod would like you to start at the beginning to ensure you know nothing."
PP123:  Bone Sigh.  "Pseudopod would like to know if there's even a plan B." (My guess: Titan A.E)
PP127:  The Garden and the Mirror.  "Pseudopod looked in that room just a second ago and no one was there."

Latest correct answers:

PP65:  Doghead. The Prophecy: "Pseudopod told you a secret before you were born and then put its fingers against your mouth and went, "shhh!".
PP70:  Rapunzel's Room. Cloverfield: "Pseudopod saw it.  It's huge and it's not a bloody Lion!"
PP108:  The Teacher. Spartan: "Pseudopod knows that a Goddess dwells in these halls, and her name is Victory."

gonna suggest some stuff i wasn't sure about.

PP72:  Heavy Rains.  Shaun of the Dead: "Pseudopod is off down the Winchester."
this exact line wasn't used in Shaun of the dead, i haven't seen minder. this is more pseudopody

PP74:  Tumble. Mimic: "Pseudopod, these are lungs."
from MacArthurBug, sounds right to me

PP75:  The Mill. Pitch Black: "Pseudopod wants to know where you'll be when the dieing starts."
taken from: "I don't know truly what's gonna happen when the lights go out, Carolyn. But I do know once the dying starts, this little psycho-fuck family of ours is gonna rip itself apart."

PP83:  Heartstrung. Hot Fuzz: "Pseudopod wants to know what the matter is, you've never taken a shortcut before?"
from the fence jumping scene.

PP85:  Living in Sepia. Sixth Sense: "Pseudopod is ready to tell you a secret."
Zathras

PP90:  The Exhibition. Enemy of the State: "Pseudopod knows you should never touch the body."
MacArthurBug. sure, why not?

PP93:  The Land of Reeds. Signs: "Pseudopod wants to know if it's possible that there are no coincidences."
MacArthurBug

PP95:  No Tomorrows. The Happening: "Pseudopod is talking to a plastic plant"
MacArthurBug

PP99.  Photo Finish. The Kingdom: "Pseudopod wants to know how you want to go out, on your feet or on your knees?"
MacArthurBug

PP101:  Homecoming. Se7en: "Pseudopod wants to know, if they made a movie about all of this, who would play you?"
Raving_Lunatic

PP105:  Pattern Masters. Fargo: "Pseudopod, Pseudopod is kind of funny lookin'."
same scene as pp78: "Pseudopod would like to know:  Funny looking how?"

PP109:  In the Coils of the Serpent. The Usual Suspects: "Pseudopod would like you to start at the beginning to ensure you know nothing."
this line was never in the movie, just a shot in the dark

PP123:  Bone Sigh. Titan AE: "Pseudopod would like to know if there's even a plan B."
i trust you =)

PP56:  Crab Apple.  "Pseudopod, despite what you claimed to have seen, didn't show up on any of the cameras we had installed."
PP94:  The Skull Faced Boy.  "Pseudopod realizes you need both things (???)"
we're gonna need to know what this quote actually is

PP98:  Among the Moabites.  "Pseudopod...Pseudopod can hear something coming."
PP102:  Dear Killer.  "Pseudopod cannot be harmed by conventional weaponry."
PP127:  The Garden and the Mirror.  "Pseudopod looked in that room just a second ago and no one was there."

85- Psudopod is ready to tell you a secret: Is this from The sixth sense? it feels about right
98- absolute shot in the dark but I want to say either Cloverfield (simply 'cause Al likes it so much) or 1408- based on nothing other then whim.
but I'm still tapped on the rest. It's just 85 sounded familiar.

This trivia is addictive- but I need answers (to the remaining few) soon, least my little brain will bust!

the problem with these last quotes is that they could have come from so many different movies. Zathras had mentioned the sixth sense for the ready to tell a secret quote.

PP56:  Crab Apple. Contact: "Pseudopod, despite what you claimed to have seen, didn't show up on any of the cameras we had installed."
something like this happened in the x-files but the hint here may be the 'cameras we had installed.' ...gah! just came to me right now! i was concentrating on ghosts too much.
PP94:  The Skull Faced Boy.  "Pseudopod realizes you need both things (???)"
we're still gonna need to know what this quote actually is

PP98:  Among the Moabites.  "Pseudopod...Pseudopod can hear something coming."
could be cloverfield, or any daikaiju flick. jurassic park comes to mind. could be the lone ranger for that matter.

PP102:  Dear Killer.  "Pseudopod cannot be harmed by conventional weaponry."
so many possibilities. this exact line doesn't appear in either terminator 2 or transformers (allsubs.org is a great place to check). could be war of the worlds or daikaiju. heck, doctor who or nightmare on elm street are possibilities.

PP127:  The Garden and the Mirror.  "Pseudopod looked in that room just a second ago and no one was there."
not jumper. i'm thinking of ghosts again but i don't trust that after pp56.

It looks like Z is pulling the plug on this one soon and Swamp wants to get rolling on the next thing. I'm sure there's a way to tie this up neatly. I suppose If we've run out of answers the great and mighty Al could supply us with those that we're missing- I'm pretty sure we have on here lists of unsures of unknowns but I could tally that up- if it's nessesary.  Who has more answers? Who (like me) is tapped out of answers? C'mon folks don't be shy, nothin's wrong with guessing!

my last list had all the unknowns left, tho some of the answers we have are of questionable quality. i'll make a couple more 'best guesses' and add to those questionable answers. we should at least try our best before Al puts us straight.

PP94:  The Skull Faced Boy. Gilmore Girls: "Pseudopod realizes you need both things (???)"
it can be tough to understand those girls sometimes. they were probably talking about shoes.

PP98:  Among the Moabites. Jurassic Park: "Pseudopod...Pseudopod can hear something coming."
some of these aren't actually said in the movie; jurassic park has the quintessential 'hear something coming' scene.

PP102:  Dear Killer. War of the Worlds: "Pseudopod cannot be harmed by conventional weaponry."
whenever i look at this one i'm put in mind of Norm Sherman's immortal lines:
your sticks and stones may break my bones and your flamethrowers may burn me
but only direct headshots will ultimately concern me.

again, this line that may not be said in the movie. it probably wasn't reign of fire since a guy was using an axe in that movie and that's pretty much the most conventional weapon there is (short of a club). i'm guessing war of the worlds for some classic b&w presence. that, and if the phrase 'conventional weapons' is used then you want a nuclear payoff.

PP127:  The Garden and the Mirror.  "Pseudopod looked in that room just a second ago and no one was there."
still no clue on this one. several possibilities but this feels like a line that was said and nothing suggests itself.

Hey Al,

Do you know any German?  I could really go for the English butler sound on my answering machine.  And yes I do use a machine.  When I'm dealing with kids and such, I'm not answering the damn phone (or bothering to look at the ID) unless it's someone I want to talk to.

There are a couple of different ways including giving the other person the remote code and using an adapter, so you can hook up your computer to the phone in line.
