The In Our Time with Melvyn Bragg radio show has an interesting episode on the Brothers Grimm. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/inourtime_current.shtml.

I'm guessing that ajames is a subscriber, and since I'm not, the link posted didn't work.  However, I think this one will:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/inourtime/

Thank you, izzardfan - my apologies for the faulty link! I'm generally very careful about posting links that work, but I didn't test it this time, and this is what I get.

I used the copy and paste function and tested the link (below) and it should take you directly to the archives of the current In Our Times series, and the episode on the Brothers Grimm should be very easy to find there. As I had very little knowledge of the story behind the "wonder stories", this episode was very enlightening to me.

There's a good episode on Darwin, too, for those who are interested (Happy Birthday, Darwin!), and one on Jonathon Swift's "A Modest Proposal", but now I'm beginning to sound like I own stock in the show.
