TV shows on the road

There are a few TV shows lately that I've wanted to watch.  I'm trying to figure out the best way to watch them.  I don't need to see them right away, so waiting 6 months or so is fine by me.  I don't have a quality high speed internet connection on the road, so streaming video is out.  I don't have a television in the truck, but would consider getting a small monitor, like the ones that are put on the back of seats in cars.  We don't have a DVR at home, and I am unfamiliar with their operation.  Can I get two and just swap them out?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I would bittorrent them at home (leave one of your computers on) using Miro player or RSS feeds.

You CAN swap out DVRs but the problem is you have to pay for service on both of them. I would only attempt it with a Tivo, not with service-bundled DVR like DirecTV or cable. You would have to pay for service on both Tivo units because service AFAIK runs through the Tivo's serial number, not through the name on the account.

Over here, there are DVRs that are just digital VCRs.  You don't need to have a service at all.  I figured it was the same in the states.

The biggest name is TiVo, but you can buy the TiVo box WITHOUT service as well and just use it as a digital recording device.

I'd just use a computer, honestly.

Bittorrent is illegal and some people have a problem with that.  I would if any of the damn streaming worked over here.  As it is, the only stuff I like that I can stream is from comedy central.

Thanks for the advice, everyone.  I don't know which route I will take, but at least I have some starting points for my research.  If I were home, I'd probably pick up a DVD recorder.  I've heard Netflix mentioned for TV shows.  Do they have a good selection?  Right now, we have the Blockbuster unlimited rentals deal, but we are thinking of switching to Netflix.

We had a Netflix subscription for about 2 years, then got a DVR and found we weren't renting enough to warrant paying the monthly fee.  But I rented quite a few TV shows while we had it.  What's nice is you can rent a specific DVD of shows, like season 2, disk 4, if you have a certain episode you want to see.  The website allows you to browse their selection without signing up, so if you have a particular TV show in mind, check and see if they carry it.

I used bittorrent to get the Hello Kitty Online client, as officially sanctioned by the people in charge of distributing it.  And we've also been using it to distribute old Pseudopod episodes, haven't we?

(But yes, I understood what you meant.  Still won't stop me from using it to watch Doctor Who a day or two behind the UK instead of waiting for edited versions to hit the Skiffy Channel over here.)
