Of course, Like everyone else here, I'd just prefer to have Steve hosting.

But if Guest Hosts are gonna become a staple of the podcast, the two people that would top my list are:

Norm Sherman of The Drabblecast
Patrick McLean of "How to Succeed in Evil" and "The Seanachai" podcasts.

If I had to decide between those two who had to be stuffed out of the airlock to conserve food and air I'd jump out myself.

Hearing Norm would be kick ass. Cory Docotorow would be pretty neat, too. But I would love to hear Al do it. IMO, he's the best host out there right now. His insights to stories at the end of PP are always fascinating.

I also wouldn't mind hearing Ben or Rachel or Ann.

The crew of clonepod

Not funny.

Who said I was joking?  I think it would be good for them to have to put out a quality intro.  I don't want one of their intros, I want them to do a quality Escape Pod intro.  If they can't record one that meets EP standards, maybe it will give them a reason to improve.

I doubt they would let clonepod host EP just to teach them a lesson.  *shivers at the thought*  A bad host like last week really drags down the whole show in my opinion, especially for potential new listeners.

I do strongly "9th", or whatever the count is at now, Norm Sherman hosting, that would rock.  At least a narration.
Also, Frank Key would be a fun host, and the Air Out My Shorts team.  But the more Eley the better, as a rule.

[...]

The worse thing would be forcing them to learn all the missteps of youth in a day to prepare them to host well. Human time has it's tempo for a reason, and few can handle a shift to a faster beat.

In other words, can we not denigrate the same minors again here folks? There are already several threads that have done that.

I Twitter. I also occasionally blog on the Escape Pod blog, which if you're here you shouldn't have much trouble finding.

Let me just say this, Heradel.  I think they could handle doing a short intro.  I was not trying to be mean at all.  I really do think it would be a good thing.  I just wanted to clear up the fact that I wasn't picking on them.

By no means picking on kids.  Though I suppose "Guest Hosts I'd like to see on Escapepod" should be about suggestions, not reactions to suggestions.

Agreed ... even I think that dead horse has been beaten so far into the ground that it's probably surfaced in China by now.

I'm going to campaign a little for Patrick.  He does his podcast in a very similar way to Steve.  He writes a script and really polishes it up.  He has a lot of wit and often has very good insights.

And if you can't get Patrick himself, maybe he'd give you Topper's phone number and he could guest host.

In all seriousness - I really like the Drabblecast and wouldn't mind hearing Norm Sherman do a story reading or an intro on EP.  It would maybe be a bit of a change from his usual strange fiction for strange listeners (like ourselves).  Heheh.

Ooo,I second Patrick Stuart!!
On a serious note, Norm Sherman would be a great host.  He would surely be different, but I don't think it would be as jarring as the starship sofa guy.  I could see him doing a weird news segment or writing/performing a hilarious song.
Also, the guys from Dunesteef podcast would be fun I think, and I also agree with Air Out My Shorts.

Well if going for hosts from beyond the grave then I vote for Boris Karloff.  I wish I could get back the albums that my dad claimed as his when my parents got divorced.  Boris Karloff's Tales of the frightened Vol 1 and 2 issued by mercury records in '62 and '63.  yes they were purchased by him before i was born, but for all practical purposes they were mine d@@@ it.   I don't think he listened to them once in the 15 years leading up to the divorce where as I listened to them at least once per year.  And since I am doing the expat thing here in china I don't see me getting to listen to it for several more years to come :(

Returning to planet Reality, I'd say George Hrab, who's already read three on Pseudopod.  Geo could read the goddamn telephone directory aloud and I'd probably listen.

OK, the fact that I'm a HUGE Frank Langella fan <swoon> is beside the fact that he has an incredible voice for narration.  He has done many documentary/History Channel/etc. shows, and I love his voice.  I'd definitely want him to do a longer episode. That said, I expect he'd be fairly expensive to book.

Hey, can I be the one to approach him on behalf of EA?  <jumping up and down wildly, arm in the air>

Can I, huh, can I?  Pleeeeeeeeeeze???

 ;D
