Hey, I'm using SMF now, as it is my favorite as a forumite.  Do you guys have any pointers for administrating it?

Come say hi over at the Beef Beer And Poker forum.

Make it a point to sign up in the Community forum (the "help" forum for SMF).  And check daily for software updates.  It's SO much easier to do an update directly from the link package than after the fact.

Take the time to go through the forum options/settings one by one very carefully, reading exactly what they do.  Some defaults are less than optimal (IMHO) and you need to know exactly what you're getting from each one.

Make sure you set an age limit for registration, as it foils most spam bots.

Thanks.  I've already joined the Community Forum, and have been doing a lot of reading.  We set our age at 18, due to Beer and Poker being a big part of our site.  I've already had "nerds" telling me to "use php, it's much better", "but do what you want".

I like SMF as a forum member.  It does all that I need it to do, why complicate things?

I just spent 3 hours trying to change my theme and add some smileys.  Didn't get exactly what I wanted, but I'm learning.

Loaded a theme and smileys, and we're learning a lot as we go.  The theme was prebuilt, but we're working on doing our own.

Our board is at http://beefbeerandpoker.com/forum feel free to go look at it and let me know what you think in this thread, even if you don't want to join.

And to the administrators here, I have a test site up for modifications.  If you'd like access to it, PM me.  It's set up to try any tweaks and if things go haywire, it will just be reinstalled instead of reloading a backup.

Our board is at http://beefbeerandpoker.com

This went to a "coming soon" page but the correct link is in your signature, so no biggie.  You may want to put up a main page on the .com part of the website with a link to the forum (or an automatic redirect).

Hey, how do I resize an image someone posted?  I'm going to go look for the info, but figured I'd ask.
