This is pretty cool... But - and I'm being vague here because I don't want to spoil anything, I would classify it more as pseudopod material than podcastle...

Yes...I thought about that. It works equally well as both fantasy and horror.

It's a classic fairy tale.  People don't realize how creepy kids tales used to be.

Though I would have appreciated it more if the animation style didn't make the real girl look quite so much like a doll in the first place.

Pretty much all of them.  There's any number of fairy tales about foolish children who were trapped by evil magic that lured them in by appearing as something they wanted.  I'm fairly certain there was even one specifically about a hall of dolls.  Couldn't recall the exact name, though.
