Thanks to folks for suggesting some of the classics.  I had a lot of them, but not all.  Sure, Oz was on the list, and even Watership Down, but for whatever reason Phantom Tollboth wasn't.

Does Jim Butcher's Dresden Files count as fantasy?

Oh my yes.  I'd say the any of the current urban fantasy craze that don't just rely on horror tropes would qualify.  So if it's just vampires and werewolves, no.  But Dresden is a wizard, and there is a lot of different fantasy stuff going on there.

In that case I nominate all of Lilith Saintcrow's work, Especially the Danny Valentine stuff.

On the contrary, vampires and werewolves can be very much fantasy. Whether something's horror or not depends much more on mood and theme than specific plot elements. I'd list something like Kitty Norville, for instance, as urban fantasy, because the werewolves and vampires are treated like characters instead of monsters and there's very little effort made to scare.

I was going to add something along the lines of "is Twilight horror?" but then I realized the responses I'd probably get.

I agree entirely.

And while Twilight may be horrible, I would classify it firmly as fantasy, not horror.

Specifically deeply repressed and troubling sexual fantasy.  ;-)

Unlike the deeply troubling and overt sexual fantasy of a Laurel K Hamilton novel (Not that I don't enjoy them)

Last chance for suggestions!  I'm making up the groups and such soon, so that the fantasy poll can start running after the SF poll wraps up.  So if there are any books or book series you want to see in the poll, post 'em!

Kids books, urban fantasy, magical realism, talking animals, elves, whatever ya got!

Did anybody note the Dragonlance series?

Conan series?

The Once and Future King?

Some of these seem obvious, but just wanted to weigh in.
