I note as of Saturday afternoon EP is going through a redesign, that the note says "won't take long."  All of which is fine by me. I note that the new homepage has links to the current crop of EP stories. It has menu tabs up top and a blogroll on the side.  It has big pictures that I assume will eventually be links to the sister pubs PC and PP. It also has very prominent paypal subscription buttons...nifty.  What I don't see (and maybe I just missed it) up top or to the side...and this is my tiny quibble, is a link to the forums where all the discussion and contests are kept...anyway...just sayin'.

Me too! Got separation anxiety till I found a link in my emails..

Might I suggest bookmarking the forums?  Just sayin.  I don't know about the schedule for the site redesign schedule, but I DID just find a link at the very bottom of the Contact Us tab on the site.  :P

That said, awesome that you brought this to light, there definitely should be a link in multiple places on the site.

I'd like to hear my options, so I could weigh them, what do you say?
Five pounds?  Six pounds? Seven pounds?

At present the link for podcastle is to podcastle.com instead of podcastle.org where it should be.

So far no link to the forums.

And the graphics for podcastle and pseudopod, which used to be linked to those sites, no longer are.

I'm sorted, links in emails will get me here till the re-design is done.  :)

Sorry, don't mean to hassle anyone. I was more trying to point out things that might have been missed. It's easy to put .com instead of .org and never notice it unless someone points it out.

No worries. I appreciate it, but I was in "but I'm not DONE yet!" mode. Honestly, thank you.  Sorry I grumped. :)

I like the new look of the site. Very clean, and the bigger images are a nice touch.

Keep working on it.  ;D

New site is indeed cleaner.

I was amused to see that the second biggest tag in the cloud was "Mike Resnick," right after Steve Eley.  This means something...

Scattercat, it means that there are no tags on any previous episodes, so I'm going through and hand-editing them. Resnick was an obvious one to tackle. :)

Probably, just my general newness here and simmering ignorance, but are you (Mur) any relation to R. A. Lafferty?  If it is impolitic to ask, do forgive; where I'm from is the second question on the list after saying hello to temporary strangers.

"How you been/ How y'all been doin' (plural)?"

"Whose your people?" (then you filter through local relatives,  then those in the county where your family first settled, if not local, other major clusters of your relatives while the speaker does the same until a link is found..."do tell, my grandmother's first cousin, Novaline, on her daddy's side married into the Wyndhams over in Smith County, bet those are some of your people." "Novaline!" I bet that's my great aunt Novy...I'll have to ask gramma next time I'm down at the home place." "Well, how's your gramma doing? Tell I send my regards." "I surely will. Would you believe she still keeps a full acre garden at 92; I swanny I hope to have so much vinegar when I'm her age.")

Once the link of relation or near relation (my great uncle's best friend was a Wyndham boy) is established and familial pleasantries exchanged, then any business at had can be tended to.

tossing in my two cents, because feature creep is fun when it's not your project.  plus, fun to irritate people by telling them to do things they were already planning to do.

the 'comments are closed' message should have a link to these forums, maybe to ep's comment section.  if you have the time and inclination each message could point to the correct story's thread.

Deflective, your ideas of "fun" are fascinating.

And Seraphim, no, I'm not.

Grow up.  The site's not been updated for years, we're all spending more time than we should on the podcasts, all doing our best and the last possible thing we need is someone getting their jollies standing four steps back going 'You're doing it wrong.'  We're a tiny organization who punch FAR above our weight and if you think the best response to that is to take cheap shots at us?  You're doing it wrong.

For what it's worth, I thought deflective was trying to be self-deprecating, not taking pot-shots.

Ah the joys of the internet, where lack of tone-of-voice can completely distort one's true intentions in any given post. :/

Gerry Rafferty, then? 'Baker Street' was soooo cool! ;D

Quick think I noticed since the redesign... Once I click into an episode I used to be able to go to the next episode from that page (instead of having to go back)

I came to escape pod really late (early 200's) and being able to hit Next Post was super useful.

It's actually part of the reason that I'm not really currently listening to podcastle (which is also missing a "Next Post" option)

Would it be possible to add?

Hey everyone!  Everyone!  EVERYONE!  Check this out:

This is me becoming that which I most fear, this is me looking into the abyss and the abyss taking my higher brain THIS?  Right here?  Is what an internet asshole looks like.  Should have taken into account the context free zone that is the intertubes, should have been politer, should not have let the epic crap fest of the last couple of weeks affect how I comport myself which means this?

Is me apologizing unreservedly.  To you in general, and deflective in particular who is about to get a PM'ed apology.  Sorry.  Don't be me.  Now, here's Burt with the weather.

thanks for the pm Alasdair, i hadn't actually read your original message until the pm directed me to it.  i've been working a job that keeps me in the back woods during recent months so was denied internet... until today!  today, we got internet in the bunkhouse and my mood is high enough that even a dressing down by Alasdair didn't hurt it.

for the record: my message was intended to show that i was aware that offering suggestions can be irritating.  a personal pet peeve is starting a project under my own incentive and having people notice the work and start offering suggestions that i was obviously already doing.

what probably would have hurt the most (if i had read the message earlier) is the 'four steps back' comment.  i'm pretty liberal with unsolicited advice around here but i also try to lend a hand wherever there's a need.  i create, maintain, and (currently) fight deletion of ea wikipedia pages.  i created an ea favicon when Ben revealed the artwork.  when Steve was having problems with the forum crashing i offered to look at the code.

it is frustrating when i think i see easy fixes and nothing happens (why still no favicons on any of the ea sites?) but there's stuff going on we don't see here in the intertubes so i don't press it.  well, except for just now about the favicons.

for the record, adding a link to the forums should be pretty straight forward.  in wordpress\wp-content\themes\yourtheme there's a file called comments.php .  search it for "Comments are closed." and replace that string with a link to ep's comment board.  i'm unfamiliar with your podpress plugin but there shouldn't be any problems.
