Just want to float a crazy idea...

Anyone interested in a Narration Forum? It'd be similar to the Writing Forum but focus on narrations/readings/recordings. Reason: I've received a lot of positive feedback for narrations I've done, which is fabulous and helps keep me going. But critical feedback would also be helpful to improve and given the thoughtful and honest feedback on the Writing Forum, I figure folks might be up for the same thing with narration.

I see this being about performance criticism rather than technical advice on hardware/software, or how to break in to the field. I'm not completely excluding the latter but would prefer a focus on the former.

Thoughts?

Think it's a good idea, at least for a thread if not anything else.  Also think that tech advice should be included though-- feedback/crit from different headphones and speaker systems around the world would be extremely helpful for those stuck tweaking sound in the same setup all the time.  Performance crit would indeed be helpful, but also subjective.

Same with the writing forum, if you think about it.

I think it would be a good idea.

I guess I'm just wondering why Podcast Pedantry can't fit the bill for narration-related topics?

I Twitter. I also occasionally blog on the Escape Pod blog, which if you're here you shouldn't have much trouble finding.

It seems like a thread there would be fine.

The reason that the writing forum needs to be private is because writers are posting their works in progress there, and if they're publicly viewable this could interfere with first rights for the story, which could screw up a lot of potential sales.  Talking about/critiquing/giving technical tips for narration does not suffer from the same "first rights" problem so it seems like it could probably just be a thread in a public forum.

Well yeah, but there's also the privacy of the forum to receive direct and frank comments, without fear of public exposure.

Anyways, thanks folks, appreciate the feedback. Seems like the idea has lukewarm reception at best, which is A-OK. Let's give it a miss.
