  • Kibitzer: A meddler who offers unwanted advice

Hi folks. So, here's a torrent for Escape Pod. Like the ones for Pseudopod and PodCastle, these will (ongoing) be cut up into six month batches (January to June and July to December) so I can update them at regular intervals. It includes the Soundproofs.

For the first few years, I'll do them in 12 month batches and they'll be coming soon(ish).

I've started with Set 07 as it represents a reasonable starting point for me. I want to clean up the files for file naming inconsistencies, mp3 tagging and file creation dates. Even this Set was very inconsistent so there's a lot to do on the other 5-some years' worth. I will get to them, but I wanted to give folks a starting point. Do I absolutely need to do the cleanup? Well, no but that's just how my brain works I'm afraid.

These are hosted on Demonoid. If you don't have a login, DM me for an invite.

Would it be OK for a mod to sticky this and the other two threads?  [Mod: Sure!]

Signed up for an account just to say: Thanks! I thought I was going to have to download all the back-episodes one-by-one, as there's a limited number available through iTunes.... This is a great piece of work!

Wow I set up a personal server with a friend just a few weeks ago and I was literally about to do the same thing but I thought I'd check the forums just to see if anyone had had the same idea recently. I was even going to standardize the tags and names like you did. I've already cleaned the files up somewhat for my own use so I know what a pain it is. Let me know if you want any help.

And here you got me all excited that perhaps set 3 was going to be available. :-P Kidding aside, I don't know how you find time for all of this work! And I think you mean set 8 to be 2011, not 2012?

Thanks very much for this - Set01 is downloading now (and should be finished in 12wks 5days unless it picks up some pace  ;)).
Very helpful.

Now that Demonoid is dead is there any plans to move this to another tracker?

Since someone decided that sharing free CC content is the victim of mass-punishment set to punish those sharing non-free content.
Suggestions for a new tracker?
Maybe The Pirate Bay? They seem to be very resilient, every time they get shut down they pop up again somewhere else. Like Whack-a-Mole!

I do not know a lot about torrents, but I do agree that PirateBay seems to be a good choice of ... I don't even know what it is. Any ways, I would like to help share these great stories and ideas, so if a new set of torrents is created, or if someone could direct me to where I could download the torrents from, I would appreciate it. I leave my torrent program on 24-7, except vacations, so I share all the time. Thanks for the help, and thanks for all the fish.

So I went ahead and made a torrent. I just used non tracker sites for the "announcement", so I would have to re-hash for the torrent to truly go live. If this one looks good, I will make a torrent listed on PirateBay and the ones already in the torrent file. Let me know if this is a good idea, or goes against the wishes of the group. Thanks.

Does anyone know of a way to get old episodes still? All of the links that I can find in the forums appears to be dead  :(

I have been listening for a while and the recent meta-cast got me thinking, so I donated and am hoping to get my hands on some old episodes to keep me going!

On the main .org sites of the three podcasts.
They are set up as blogs, so you can go through the archives.
Unfortunately there's no simpler way to get the episodes than to go through month by month and download them. Hopefully that will be fixed with the new site upgrades.

The Pirate Bay is offline again now and those links look dead to me.  Do you have any updated links for the torrents?  I'd love to download the rest of the episodes without burdening Escape Artist's bandwidth.  I'm sure that making those torrents was time-consuming, and if everyone had the opportunity to download them, your efforts would be rewarded much more.

This is one thing that hopefully Escape Artists will improve upon in the future.  It would be very nice if there were an official archive torrent for each show, and it were updated every fifty episodes or so.
