I really liked this story, it was an excellent take on memory, nostalgia and outsidership. Very well written, and the narration was pretty great as well. I think their relation worked fine, they really only had that eerie feeling of otherness in common, but for them, any companion that understands that is worthwhile.

Apparently in opposition to most I found this story to be pretty much entirely a wash. The fact that floors were squishy, pears being in things, that some change in the environment made cattle in North America difficult, well these things are to add flavor but it still felt too bland for me. I'm afraid that the reading felt like a detraction to me. It might have been my cheap work headphones but it sounded tinny and rather mono-tonal, I feel like saying that will always come off badly. Ah well, you win some, you lose some.
