Yeah, this is shameless self promotion, but I'm happy about it.

I'm starting a fiction podcast called "The Great Beyond", and I hope everyone here will listen and give it a critique. The first episode is going up in the middle or end of June. I have several stories lined up already (And are they some good stories) and about to get this show going.

And for anyone wanting to send in their work, the guidelines are in this link.

Yeah, shameless self promotion, but I am not the first one in podcasting to do it.

I'm looking at you Scott Sigler...

I've been experimenting with podcasting but my problem is what kind of show I should do.  I'm very funny with my wife and friends, but putting that across on a recordable medium is a different skill set.  I've done some acting, student radio and comedy, and those experiences taught me that a good show must have memorable content.  Or else, the audience will walk away.

I'm not an expert on anything except my own unique view of the world.  Here's my first attempt at podcasting and mixing (first post): http://www.diabeticincandyland.com/.

Once I get it set up completely and the first episode is out I'll use every brain cell in my head to do it, or if that isn't enough, conscript somebody else's brain cells to do it

Looking forward to it!

Er, here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/store/podcaststechspecs.html

Thank you for making me feel like an idiot Heradel. Everyone could use that knockdown off their own pedestal every once in awhile.

Damn me and my almost techno-illiteracy.

How are you paying your authors off the bat if you don't mind my asking?  Do launching story podcasts typically pay out of pocket until they have a listener base that can support them?

#1: I pay my authors 25$ for every episode that their story is in. since the stories are quite long (between 6k and 20k words), they will always be broadcast in at least 2 episodes. The longest I go is 4. so, to answer, between $50 and $100.

#2: Yes, all the money right now is coming out of my own pocket. In the future, if I get a big enough fanbase I would like to set up a donation bin, but for now it's all out of my own pocket and so far it's just going to be a labor or love. (for me, not the authors. They get paid, remember?)

Thank you for saying that. I didn't notice the audio problem before I put it out. Figured out it was my audio cleaner (I'm never using the Audacity cleaner again). Next episode should sound better.
