I just finished watching the series 2 Dr. Who episodes "The Impossible Planet" and "The Satan Pit."  I was struck by the many similarities between the look and feel of the episode sand the "Doom" series of computer games, particularly Doom 3.  Not only did the sanctuary base look like it had been pulled strait out of that game, but a number of visual and thematic elements seemed directly inspired.  I even noticed a specific sound effect that was used twice in "Impossible Planet": the door-closing sound from the original Doom.  It played when the Beast was stalking Toby in the corridor outside his room.

It seemed to me that these episodes were directly inspired by and paid homage to Doom.  Did anyone else get that when they watched them?  (I'm assuming I'm not the only one who's played Doom 3 and seen those episodes.)

I think they've been using the Doom engine for some of the special effects, it's more evident this season and you'll see where.

I liked that episode for the challenging of the Doctor's belief system, something they've been continuing with/trying to map out. The last two episodes were very clear in that regard.

I Twitter. I also occasionally blog on the Escape Pod blog, which if you're here you shouldn't have much trouble finding.

Do you mean the two most recent episodes or the two episodes I was referring to?  I watch Dr. Who on DVD, so I haven't seen any series 3 yet.

I mean the last two that aired. Same goes for the comment about the Doom engine being used.

I'm a little inpatient (and, well, out-of-money college student), so I end up grabbing them via ye old intertubes. I'm gonna do a post on the last two tonight in the Doctor Who thread once I get off work.
