Riley gets a lot better. Ice Station, his second novel, is astonishing, just total, flat out pulp lunacy for five hundred pages. I read it in two days and was knackered afterwards. Area 7, the next one, is equally crazy and if anything bigger. Why they're not movies yet mystifies me.
