Our specialized education services company connects certified sign language interpreters with schools seeking comprehensive communication support for deaf and hard of hearing students. We provide innovative remote and on-site interpreting services that ensure students receive expert linguistic access while supporting their academic achievement and social participation in educational environments.
We are seeking a qualified Sign Language Interpreter to provide comprehensive interpreting services to deaf and hard of hearing students across various grade levels through our established educational support framework. This role involves working with approximately 45-55 students while dedicating 36-37 hours per week to direct interpreting services, preparation time, and collaborative planning activities.
Your interpreting work will encompass facilitating communication between students, teachers, and educational staff while supporting academic instruction across diverse subject areas. The position requires expertise in both American Sign Language and English, with the ability to provide clear, accurate interpretation that promotes student understanding and participation in all aspects of their educational experience.
As an Educational Sign Language Interpreter, you will provide simultaneous and consecutive interpreting services during classroom instruction, facilitate communication during IEP meetings and parent conferences, and support student participation in extracurricular activities and school events. Your responsibilities include preparing vocabulary and content-specific signs for upcoming lessons, collaborating with teachers to ensure optimal positioning and lighting for visual access, and maintaining professional boundaries while advocating for deaf and hard of hearing students.
You'll work closely with deaf and hard of hearing education teachers, provide interpreting services during assessments and evaluations, and participate in team meetings to discuss student progress and accommodation needs. Additional duties include maintaining confidentiality of all educational information, continuing professional development to enhance interpreting skills, and staying current with educational terminology and subject-specific vocabulary across various grade levels and academic disciplines.
Candidates must possess a minimum 3.5 EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score and have completed 2 years of interpreting experience in school settings. Fluency in American Sign Language and English is essential, with demonstrated competency in educational interpreting techniques and classroom management awareness.
Essential qualifications include knowledge of deaf culture and community, understanding of child development and educational processes, ability to work effectively with students across various age groups, and strong professional ethics regarding confidentiality and appropriate interpreter role boundaries. Experience with virtual interpreting platforms and basic technology skills are important for adapting to various educational delivery methods.
We strongly prefer candidates with a 4.0 EIPA score, Written EIPA certification, and RID/NIC certification with written test completion. Additional preferences include experience interpreting for multiple grade levels, familiarity with various communication modalities used by deaf and hard of hearing students, and previous work in inclusive educational environments.
