Key Responsibilities
- Culinary Leadership: Spearhead the design and execution of nutritious, culturally sensitive, and cost-effective menus for seminarians, staff, and retired priests of the Prophet Elijah House (PEH), while leading culinary planning for special events and ensuring alignment with dietary needs, health guidelines, and organizational programming.
- Kitchen & Staff Management: Lead kitchen operations by recruiting, training, and supervising staff, managing schedules to optimize coverage and minimize overtime, fostering a positive work environment, and collaborating with the Kitchen Supervisor to ensure efficient workflow and high food quality.
- Operations & Compliance: Oversee food sourcing, inventory, and vendor relations while ensuring compliance with health regulations, sanitation standards, and HACCP guidelines; maintain organized storage, proper food handling, and lead deep cleaning during seminarian breaks.
- Budget & Administration: Develop and manage food service budgets, control costs and waste, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with staff to align food operations with organizational needs and schedules.
- Internal Service Focus: Deliver high-quality meals aligned with program schedules while fostering a welcoming, respectful dining environment for seminarians, staff, and retired priests.
- Summer Responsibilities: Oversee daily meal preparation during the summer for the seminary and retired priests, including menu planning, ingredient procurement, and coordination with the Housing Director to meet dietary needs, ensure timely meal delivery, and arrange alternative catering during closures or approved PTO.
Requirements:
What We’re Looking For
- Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the church and eager to carry out the mission of Saint John Vianney Theological Seminary.
- Align with the values and mission of the Catholic Church in an Apostolic Age.
- Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Nutrition, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a professional kitchen, including at least 2 years in a leadership role (Executive Chef, Head Chef, or Kitchen Manager).
- Experience working in a school, non-profit, institutional, or high-volume food service setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of federal and local food safety regulations; ServSafe certification required or must be obtained upon hire.
- Maintains confidentiality, professionalism, and a ministry-minded attitude.
- Proven culinary experience in institutional, hotel, or restaurant settings, including expertise in high-volume food production
- Strong culinary skills and a passion for creating healthy, flavorful meals.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage food budgets, inventory, and vendor relationships.
- Sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds and dietary needs of seminarians, staff, and retired priests (PEH).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.
