Executive Director of CASA of Mesa County (Court Appointed Special Advocates)

Organization Mission: Provide a voice in court for victims of child abuse and neglect in Mesa County.

Position Summary:

The Executive Director is responsible for overall management of the agency. This primarily involves the supervision and coordination of a volunteer services program that provides CASA services to abused and neglected children. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, (1) resource development and financial management; (2) agency and program planning; (3) community and public relations; (4) personnel management; and (5) agency liaison to the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

Resource Development:

  • Identify funding opportunities and prepare and submit grant proposals
  • Develop and maintain a donor base for both monetary and non-monetary resources
  • Develop and maintain a donor tracking system
  • Work with the Board on fundraising events or activities

Agency Management and Program Planning:

  • In partnership with the Board of Directors, develop and execute strategic plans to reach agency goals
  • Ensure that program and agency progress is aligned with goals and objectives
  • Ensure agency compliance with National and State CASA standards
  • Ensure all reports are filed with the appropriate agency for all necessary permits, memberships, licenses, etc.
  • Oversee agency and program compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Maintain working relationships with court staff, human services, and other child welfare agencies and ensure that they are apprised of agency directives and activities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain tracking systems for both volunteers and case files
  • Prepare program reports
  • Attend and work with National and State CASA programs through conferences and meetings

Community and Public Relations

  1. Coordinate public relations activities to recruit volunteers and increase public awareness of the CASA program.
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with all appropriate groups, agencies, organizations, including child advocacy agencies and community service organizations.
  3. Oversee the release of press packets and news releases and follow up on any media coverage.
  4. Approve all written public relations material printed by the agency.
  5. Be available for public speaking engagements.

Personnel Management:

  • Hire and supervise agency staff. This should include annual performance evaluations and staff development goals.
  • Maintain appropriate job descriptions for all staff within the agency (except the executive director)

Board of Directors Liaison

  • Oversee implementation of all Board directives, policies, and procedures
  • Serve as liaison between Board and agency staff
  • Keep the Board apprised of agency operations, changes, and problems
  • Monitor Board/Committee activities and attend Committee meetings
  • Attend all Board meetings

Fiscal Management and Oversight

  • Manage day-to-day fiscal operations
  • Submit monthly financial reports to the Board of Directors and to grantors as required
  • Review and approve all monthly and quarterly reports and documentation to substantiate those reports
  • Submit bills and expenditures to the treasurer for reimbursement and accounting
  • Develop an annual agency budget for Board approval

Accountability:

The Executive Director is hired by and reports to the Board of Directors. Position is full-time, exempt.

Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Administration, Human Services, or related field (Master's degree preferred) with a minimum of seven (7) years related experience in the administration of volunteers, non-profit, or public service agency. Candidates must demonstrate strong skills in fiscal management, resource development, agency and program planning, public relations, and interpersonal communication skills. Previous experience working with volunteers and knowledge and understanding of child abuse and neglect, families in crisis, and other social services skills are given priority.
