The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience is hiring a Research Assistant/Senior Research Assistant to assist with the coordination of laboratory projects or research studies in a particular discipline, make independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience. We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, self-driven person to work as a part of a vibrant group in a fast-paced environment. This person will work in a collegial environment and join a multidisciplinary team. Duties can span a broad range of activities or be primarily focused within one or more areas of the clinical research spectrum.

Essential Functions

  • Independently perform experiments and record data according to research protocols.
  • Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data.
  • Apply research principles for less complex assignments.
  • May maintain and oversee animal colony management and animal husbandry.
  • Solve problems using combined research knowledge.
  • Analyze research results. Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data.
  • Organize data search and analysis procedures.
  • Assist in establishing test controls, criteria and research standards.
  • Assist with the design of complex data processing systems to analyze research data.
  • Accomplish assigned results for projects/studies, or for significant aspects of larger, complex assignments.
  • May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Minimum Requirements

Research Assistant:

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree.
Four (4) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience
Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline. May require experience with specialized software programs.

Senior Research Assistant:

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree.
Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience
Three (3) years of relevant experience.
Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.
