Join the dynamic High-Performance Unit of the Charlotte Hornets as a Sport Scientist, where your expertise in gathering, analyzing, and reporting performance data will drive the success of our team! In this pivotal role, you'll support the Vice President of Player Health and Performance, the Director of Athletic Performance, and the Director of Sports Medicine. Together, we deliver actionable insights through detailed reports that empower our coaches, front office personnel, and the entire High-Performance Unit to make informed decisions and achieve excellence. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze data under the direction of the Vice President of Player Health and Performance, Director of Athletic Performance, and Director of Sports Medicine.
  • Distribute and manage athlete tracking devices to monitor performance metrics before and after each basketball training session or practice.
  • Track and analyze athlete on-court time pre- and post-activity to assess workload and recovery.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all collected data following training sessions, practices, and games.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the demands and intricacies of high-performance sports environments.
  • Utilize advanced sports science technologies, including external workload tracking, strength testing technology, force plates, and motion capture, to optimize player performance and recovery strategies.
  • Contribute to the integration of sport science data while supporting comprehensive athlete development and return-to-play programs.
  • Based on background and experience, assist with athletic performance training programs (warm-ups, strength and conditioning sessions, equipment, etc.) as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Player Health and Performance, Director of Performance, or Director of Sports Medicine.
Required Skills, Experience and Abilities

To perform the job successfully, you should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Sport Science, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Physiology, Data Science, or similar.
  • Enrolled in or completed a Master's degree with a focus on Exercise Science, Sport Science, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Physiology, Data Science, or similar.
  • Possess or working towards Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
  • Process or working towards Certified Performance and Sports Scientist certification (CPSS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
  • Proficiency in athlete management systems, local positioning systems, and force output testing equipment.
  • Exceptional proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and utilize data effectively.
  • Passion for high-performance sports and continuous professional development.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines within a technical team environment.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with team-based sports.
  • Familiarity with athlete tracking technology and athlete management systems.
