American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Ortho-Neuro position with EPIC experience and orthopedic patient care skills in an acute care setting.

\n \n Responsibilities\n
  • Position is in a 33-bed Med/Surg Ortho-Neuro unit in an acute care hospital
  • Patient population includes elective orthopedic surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), fractures from falls, back and neck neurosurgeries, and general Med/Surg cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6
  • 12-hour day shifts with rotating weekends and holiday coverage required
  • Use of EPIC EMR is required
  • Travelers are required to float to other Med/Surg units as needed; appropriate assignments given if floated to Tele
  • Remote telemetry monitoring available if needed but RNs are not required to read strips
  • PCA pumps and IV fluids are managed on the unit; no titration of heparin or other drips
  • CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow oxygen equipment managed by respiratory therapy
  • Provide nursing care for post-surgical orthopedic and neuro patients as well as general med/surg patients
  • Support staff typically includes patient care techs to assist with ADLs and vitals; staffing varies by census
  • Charge nurse present 24/7; night charge nurses maintain a full patient assignment
  • Dress code requires royal blue scrubs; jackets, if worn, must be royal blue scrub jackets
  • Unit orientation consists of one day EPIC training and one day on the floor with a preceptor
  • Travelers are the first to float when required
  • No call or standby required, but low census call-offs may occur
  • Travelers must work every other weekend and may be scheduled for holidays based on unit needs
  • Candidates who have worked previously at any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year break before reapplying
  • No local travelers permitted per facility rule

  • Active WV or compact RN license required
  • Minimum of 2 years RN experience, with specific experience caring for orthopedic patients and using PCA pumps
  • Current AHA BLS certification required
  • EPIC charting experience required
  • Must provide an unexpired copy of driver's license for consideration
  • No BSN required
